For the past few years my wife and I have chosen open-face tarot cards for our December altar to symbolize our hopes for the coming week, month, or year. This year we were kinda late to the game and only did it once, but this is what my cards symbolized.
1. The World (from the Wild Unknown Tarot)
I chose this card based on the art moreso than what The World card canonically represents. To me, those little flowers bent around the innermost circle represent seeds ready to burst forth and grow. The World is eternal yet ever-changing, ever looping in cycles of birth and growth and death and rebirth. Right now as a country, as a world, we are in a stagnant period of death and dying. My hope is that the seeds of science and creativity burst forth in the coming year. Let the vaccines get to the people they need to get to and slow this pandemic. Let an explosion of creativity and positive social change come out of this year of quarantine. Let our country's leaders finally address the climate crisis and take the big steps needed to counteract it. Let us plant the seeds for the next generations so that they can have a world to grow into.
2. The High Priestess (from the Spacious Tarot)
I don’t have much to say about this one, but then, the High Priestess is not a forthcoming presence. Suffice it to say that I want to work on my connection to spirit and spirituality in the coming year. These last few years have been very focused on earning money and surviving physically and I want to shift my priorities inward for a change.
3. Temperance (from the Modern Witch tarot)
This was more of a short-term goal for me, from the beginning of December until mid January. My job is requiring mandatory overtime, and even though I'm working from home now, it's a strain on my creativity, spirituality, and relationships. My goal is to not give my dayjob everything I got, not let it suck every spark of life out of me. This year I've been somewhat successful. I found time to put out a short Christmas EP (Just a Little Tree by Kathryn Hoss, wherever you get music lol shameless plug). I’ve also been exercising fairly regularly and tomorrow I’m starting a 30-day yoga challenge. This year I want to find balance among my personal, professional, and creative lives by moving with intention and compassion.
