They never realized that they truly were soulmates until centuries passed after meeting on that fateful day, when their eyes interlocked and their hearts had beat with the swift nervousness that they now no longer had. The realization settled in after what it seemed to be eons, finally discovering that the flutter in their hearts attuned to the feelings they’ve had for each other.
Techno thought that the idea of soulmates was merely child’s tale, something to keep mortals inspired to continue fulfilling their lives until they eventually returned to the ground. He found them intriguing, as did any fairy tale one could find in the library, but the concept of soulmates was nothing but false hope to him.
Phil used to treasure these myths, a hopeful sheen that gave him determination on his journeys, the idea of meeting a fated one and settling down to start a family always dwelling in the back of his mind. However, that was millennia ago, as he soon stopped believing in them after many wars.
One fateful night, however, changed all of that.
They remembered it so clearly: a peaceful night interrupted by scorching pain, the sudden burning on their chests. Phil saw Techno double over, a heavy hand slamming against the table for stability. They groaned, heaving as they dealt with the sudden pain.
Then, their suffering left as soon as the deed was done.
Techno wondered if the universe spared him after so long. The ones above did not give him another curse, but instead a blessing that he would forever treasure until the day he died. At long last, they gifted him a symbol that was not stained with blood—but instead burned with love. A type of love that felt warm in his chest, that filled his stomach with butterflies at the sight of his mark.
It was his mark, one that tied him to remain with his lover. Techno felt like a child, a giddy laugh escaping his lips as he gazed at the universe’s gift.
Phil, however, thought that it was a cruel joke. He could only feel unease in the bottomless pit of his stomach, his breath barely escaping as worry grew in his bones. The immortal knew that the mark could very well be a sign of eventual loss, a parting gift from the gods. He knew that one day he would lose what he had now, that he would lose Techno. Fate had been cruel to him before, and it would only hunt him down again.
But... would being declared as soulmates really be so bad?
The blond looked to Techno, who was clearly proud of his soulmate mark. What if this was the universe’s way of forgiveness?
“Your heart,” Techno placed a hand on his chest, marked with the Angel of Death’s hardcore heart, “and my blade.” He then gently placed his hand on Phil’s chest, which was indeed marked with the Blood God’s blade.
The piglin hybrid took Phil’s hand and pressed his lips to his knuckles, bowing his head to show his love to the Angel. Phil huffed softly with a smile and slid a hand against Techno’s cheek, angling the immortal’s head to look up at him. Starry sapphires met velvet rubies, only to disappear as the fated couple closed their eyes and locked lips.
