im undergoing a Dilemma™. basically ive been raising a little Grey Dagger moth caterpillar since i found him on my rose bush 16 days ago, and he's pupated inside a log like they do (covered himself in sawdust, this species makes pupa, not cocoons so I'm assuming there's a pupa under there?). they overwinter as pupa BUT; all information ive found says that pupa can dry out, and to mist them. but to remove anything mouldy. but he's in a log! what if the log goes mouldy? (1/2)
the sawdust, when i gently blew on it, seems stuck on, rather than just a little pile, and I'm not gonna disturb him to see if there's a hard pupa under there. I don't want him to dry out but I don't want him to go mouldy either :( why did he have to snuggle down in a log? why couldn't he just hang off a branch like a respectable caterpillar? I've not found anything about caring for pupa that form in logs in regards to humidity. (2/2)
