Antonio squinted under the ominous florescent lights that flickered above him. He couldn't breathe properly, his breaths coming out in short, anxious huffs. Not much scared him, but this, this was terrifying. To have been caught whilst robbing the most notorious mob boss in Portugal, well, it wasn't exactly the best place to be.
Gilbert and Francis had managed to get away, but Antonio, he had been nabbed and brought directly to the boss himself. The man, João, was about his height, with long luscious brown hair that was tied in a low ponytail down his back. He wore something akin to a pirate outfit: a flowy white shirt with a V-neck that vaguely showed off his muscular chest, swooping brown pants that fit in just the right areas.

Prince João Barcelos was the most beautiful man Antonio had ever set his eyes on. A beam of light in the night sky, much like a full moon, illuminating the darkness with his good looks and fiery personality. He was everything Antonio desired in a partner: sharp and unforgiving, yet secretly caring and sweet underneath it all. Over time, Antonio had peeled back the layers of João to find what truly made him tick, and every coat he removed only made him fall further and deeper into this hole that he'd dug himself into.
It was tragic, then, that he was to be engaged to Princess Emilia Edelweiss of Austria. She too could be sharp and uncaring, but not in the way João was. His true lover could light a fire under him like no other, whereas he simply found Emilia irritating and grating, like nails on a chalkboard. He felt trapped; pinned between two boulders that only continued to grind against one another, painful and jarring against his skin and bones.

“You left me,” he repeated. “Every single time—” Each word was punctuated by a hand gesture. “—you left me behind. Why—why—would I welcome you back with open arms?”
