Grenet pindsvineknop (Sparganium erectum)
Branched Bur Reed (Sparganium erectum)
Sparganium emersum, Typhaceae
European bur-reed is a wetland plant native to much of the norther latitudes of Eurasia and North America. Other species of this genus are diffuse in different areas of the world, but most are still temperate plants.
It can grow quite tall, up to 2 m, and spread rapidly via rhizomes along the edges of ponds and shallow streams, creating the ideal environment for aquatic species which like to hide in the shade provided by vegetation, and good cover for waterfowl to nest. Here it has been planted all around a newly-established pond along the river Clyde in Glasgow, with the intent to create a safe haven for wildlife.
L' espargani o balca ramosa floreix ara en basses, estanys i marges de rius i rierols quan les seves aigües són lentes.
