BIOLOGY LESSON WITH KARNEVAL: Inkyuna/Cradle
…more like I never signed up for such mindblowing science fiction when I read Karneval what
MAJOR SCORE 62-63 SPOILERS
Inkyuna/インキュナ or Cradle (as I call it because it makes more sense and Chinese translation is 摇篮) is the source of power and conflict in the world of Karneval.
Origin Cradle cells originate from a small self-sustaining country which does not have much contact with other countries called Rimuhakku. Besides Cradle cells that is naturally found in the country, all living things are made up of Cradle-type cells. In other words, they are like natural post-humans and post-animals. Among all the people, the royal family has the most concentration of these cells, making them brilliant fighters.
Cradle is a neutral existence when in a closed country, however, people from other countries tried to experiment with and use it. This sparks the conflict of Kafka versus Circus. The sections below will cover the different Cradle users and how they utilise Cradle powers, whether human or post-human.
Kafka and post-human Valga 30 years ago, the government set up a secret project for the sake of evolving humans. They attempted to do so by combining/implanting Cradle cells with humans to create post-humans.
The project backfired because this process created Valga instead as the Cradle cells broke down human bodies. Possessing vast power, their metabolism is so high that they have to eat humans to maintain their energy to continue living.
There was a huge debate whether to continue on this project by two groups of scientists who favoured and opposed it.
20 years ago, the hidden Cradle was stolen by Kafka and researchers were killed. Karoku’s parents are also involved with this project and with Kafka. 18 years ago, Valga started appearing and attacking people in public as Kafka created more of them either in their laboratories or by their Valga. Karoku was also born in the same year.
Circus and human fighters To counter this problem, the government established Circus 14 years ago to fight against the Valga. Circus fighters are equipped with special bracelets containing Cradle cells which also acts as their ID. This allows them to use Cradle powers safely while remaining human because the Cradle cells do not enter their bodies.
Rimuhakku’s downfall and the unique non-Valga post-human 11 years ago, everyone and everything in Rimuhakku were annihilated by Valga except for its prince… whose name is Yogi and he was 10 years old then.
Kafka scientists implanted Cradle cells into him, turning him into a post-human. Because Yogi’s body naturally contained a high concentration of Cradle-type cells, the foreign Cradle cells did not not break him down. Instead, the Cradle cells coexisted with the existing Cradle-type cells, eventually developing a personality who is known as silver haired Yogi by Circus.
For an unknown period of time, Yogi suffered in the laboratory, killed all the scientists and destroyed the laboratory with his Cradle powers before Circus (mainly 16 year old Hirato and Tsukitachi) rescued him. The rest is history as Circus brought him up so he ends up being the second ship fighter we know. Whenever Yogi’s situation becomes critical, the Cradle: human cell ration goes into disequilibrium, causing silver!Yogi to take over.
BONUS: D.Gray-man and Karneval parallels
Actually there’s quite some parallels between Karneval and D.Gray-man with Cradle as both Innocence and Dark Matter (source of power), Circus as the Black Order (good guys), Kafka as the Noah family (bad guys), Valga as Akuma (innocent monsters) and Yogi is Allen Walker (traumatic past, really sympathetic towards the monsters, split personality and being involved with both the good and bad guys).

That idiot. He's not supposed to get injured so easily; he's a part of Circus.
But here he was, running around after the male on a wild goose chase. Yogi had gotten hurt and been left in the forest. Tsk, telling everyone to move on without him. Wasn't very smart now. The doctor walked through the forest, his footsteps a bit quicker than normal. He avoided each twig and leaf carefully, not wanting to alert anything in the area. Akari himself was unprotected, and he wanted to meet nothing at the moment.
His travels brought him to a clearing, which opened to a small pool of water and a rocky overhang. It was an almost peaceful setting, except for the form crumpled near the edge. He made his way to the blood-stained lump, nudging him with his foot. "I know you're not dead. Stop laying there like that."

when are you getting it? ah way to happy to know you’ll be back with us soon
IDK when I'll get a new laptop. Firstly there's a window period of 1-2 weeks to see if the laptop gets returned. Then my parents would most likely delay getting the laptop as punishment. Most probably June but I'll cope with using my home desktop/school desktop for now...
