This is inspired by @sparkskun ‘s little comic series in where Alex gets badly hurt, and poor Laf blames himself for his lover getting hurt. This takes place around after Alex gets better.
Summary: It had only been two weeks since Alex had gotten out of the infirmary after the almost fatal injury he had, and Lafayette had been acting a little different than usual. One night, Alexander receives a letter from his lover beckoning him to visit the Frenchman at night, so he goes, but he is soon to learn a secret about the Frenchman he would never expect...
Alexander laid his head stubbornly on the desk as he finished yet another letter Washington had assigned him to. Ever since what happened in the last battle Alexander participated in, Washington was quick to reassign him back to manning his journal. He was also given the strict order not to even leave the camp for any reason since it would give Washington the suspicions that Hamilton snuck off to partake in some messing around with the British. Alexander knew Washington well; when he gave an order to him, it was for his own good. He stretched then rose from his seat picking up the multiple letters and assignments he had finished that afternoon, soon leaving his tent to report to the general.
Lafayette watched in the distance as his short lover left his tent holding the stack of papers approaching General Washington’s tent. Gilbert was forced to watch as Alex was terribly shot in the battle, then not be allowed to visit him until he was determined as stable in health, and finally left to be exiled in the army camp as Lafayette made his name known in battle. This tortured the Frenchman. He never wanted to keep secrets from his lover, but he didn’t have many choices but to accept the curse given to him would cause him to outlive his petit lion by many years. That was...unless he could change that. He ran to the tent, approaching the desk and quickly grabbing the quill and leaving a note that he knew only Alex would understand. Softly placing it on the desktop, he ran out of the tent and to his own as the sun began to fall from the sky.
Alex let out a tired sigh as he opened the tent flaps, he was finally pardoned to stop his work for the night but was ensured that he was to continue when the army set out for the next battle the next morning, He froze upon seeing the note on the desk written in French, “Once you are free, meet me in the lions den.-Lafayette” Alexander was quick to run out of the tent and toward another, he was all too familiar with: Lafayette’s.
Lafayette smiled as he heard his lover enter the tent letting out tired breaths, “I saw your note. What is wrong, mon Cheri?” Lafayette turned around to face the smaller man, slowly nearing him, “Mon petit lion, what happened the last time you were in battle frightened me, I want to know that you will always be by my side..” Alexander smiled, “I will always be yours, mon amour. I will never leave your side.” Lafayette smiled and let his face near the shorter man’s, “Merci, Mon Cheri”
Soon, their lips moved in a calm waltz, one leading the other as they followed. Lafayette carefully moved Alex towards his cot, then laying his back on the soft blanket as the dance soon grew to a quicker pace. Lafayette parted his lips from Alexander’s, kissing his cheek then nearing his neck...Did he really want to do this? Did Gilbert want to take what was left of the mortal’s normal traits? Yes. He almost lost Alexander once, he wasn’t going to experience that another time. Lafayette opened his mouth, feeling as his fangs replaced his human canines. Alex closed his eyes as he heard Lafayette speak, “I was parted from you for five weeks, mon amour. I want us to stay together for eternity.” He bit down, and let his natural instincts take in as he took some of Alex’s blood. He withdrew his fangs from the mortal as he felt him go limp. He was going to be a mortal for no longer.....
Alex woke up the next morning in his own tent, exhausted beyond belief. He felt what he believed was a hickey on his neck, and was glad that his jacket would cover it. He assumed he was Lafayette’s tent before sleep overtook him, but it may have been an illusion from all the work he endured. He lazily got up and headed back to his workstation, preparing himself for yet another long day at work.
Five days. It has been five days and Lafayette could already see the changes began to change Alexander. He grew paler and almost appeared tired, just how Lafayette was when he became a vampire. He decided to keep his distance from Alexander, but only until this night, where he knew that Alex would visit the river to cleanse his face.
Alexander left his tent and walked to the river where he kneeled down and closed his eyes as he splashed water in his eyes. Once he opened his eyes to look at his reflection, his breath caught in his throat; his reflection was not there. He arose from his position and began to back away from the river. He all of a sudden felt something sharp in his mouth, fangs. He opened his mouth to scream, but two arms wrapped around his waist and whispered in his ear in a comforting tone, “Don’t scream, mon amour..Please.” Alexander was paralyzed, his lover did this to him, well, that’s what he hoped wasn’t true. His voice shook, “Are y-you a-a-?” The Frenchman replied, “A vampire? .....Oui.” Alexander placed his arms on Gilbert’s,” Why did you do this to me?” Lafayette's voice grew sad, sincere, “You almost died that last time you were in battle. I don’t want to lose you...” Alexander looked back down into the river, all there revealed were the uniforms in which he and Lafayette wore. Alexander hugged Gilbert’s arms, “I forgive you, mon amour.” He wiggled out of the Frenchman’s arms and faced him, “But you have a lot to explain to me...” Lafayette smiled, “Of course, my love.” Then, Lafayette wrapped his arms around Alexander and guided him towards his tent. They may outlive the general, the might outlive their other two friends...But they will be together...for Eternity.
