The trip home was pleasantly quick. Even though I knew we wouldn’t be here for too long, I still missed Selvadora.
Wren: ‘’...I just cannot understand how she abandoned her own party. Did she simply not wish to have one at all?’’
Sparrow: ‘’You now understand how your parents must of felt about you, Wren. Are you warm enough in that evening coat, darling?’’
Wren: ‘’I’m fine.’’
Wren: Summertime, sweet like the ripest fruit. Days spent in the haze of the heat, dipping into the ocean. Sparrow and I had made every effort to keep the children in a little paradise, away from trouble. In a way, it was for us too.
After feeling pain for so long, we wanted to feel the sun on our backs - calm and simple, with no eyes watching our every move.
It was lovely.
Wren: ‘’And also, I’m expecting again. Having some alone time in the house while the children go to school would be nice.’’
Sparrow: ‘’You couldn’t have told me that first?’’
Wren: ‘’Surprise!’’ [laughter]
🎶
Wren: We’re truly doing this?
Sparrow: Truly. No need to wake yourself up.
Wren: Don’t flatter yourself too much, Sparrow.
Wren: ...our fifth child is on its way, but that hasn’t stopped us from enjoying the summer. A mother’s intuition - I knew I was with child very early on. I can say, honestly, I hope this will be our last. Though it has been a joy to watch the children grow, I’m tired.
Wren: ...even though the beginning of summer was rainy, the last few days have brought sunshine. It’s been splendid, but I must admit I’ve been feeling rather sick lately. I have a feeling why.
