SPB Thoughts on the Pipe Up Cast- PIPER

Theme: Two, Sleeping At Last

piper is named after a pet bunny that my co-author Tinysweetbunny used to have. Tiny's piper was a boy though.

piper is based on one of the modes in my (median) system. it's one of the modes that diverges the most from my host identity.

she is one of the warren members who has the strongest gender identity. in contrast, she has no idea what her sexuality (or romantic orientation) is.

piper USED to see percy's parents as her parents but eventually stopped. this is in contrast to quinn, who still sees himself as their child.

the warren (esp percy and quinn) have always been supportive of kai, but kai when hes in distress responds especially well to piper. she has a magic touch to him that even percy didnt quite capture.

last fun fact uhhhh... she has a deep-seated interest in transitioning.

SPB Thoughts on the Pipe Up Cast- KAI

Theme: Meteor Shower, Cavetown

When we started Pipe Up, my co-author Tiny gave me a goal: To write a best friend for the main character who was well-meaning but ultimately selfish. I took this challenge on and thus created Kai.

Kai ended up way more popular with the readerbase than I initially expected. I thought he would come off similarly to Shelly from FYR or Iya from COTL-- but by pleasant surprise, the readers tend to understand him very well!

Tiny calls Kai her "play-dough." She likes to mess with his expressions a lot, especially for goofy/comedy panels.

Kai connected well with Niko in that Chapter 3 scene because it's the first time Kai has ever heard the Warren allude to being proud of their queerness.

Kai has very few connections. This was the case even before he was outed. However, after getting outed, the town went from mainly ignoring his existence to outright hatred/spite. The Warren (and a couple online friends) are Kai's only real support.

Kai met Quinn once before the climactic scene in Chapter 4. But he didn't know.

Kai is the only character in the comic with two aura colors. This is because he's the only singlet in the main cast (not counting anyone's parents). Co-author Egge says she loves to draw his auras for this reason.

SPB Thoughts on the Pipe Up Cast- NIKO

3 people voted for Niko, so. :V

Theme: Coffee and Cigarettes, NeverShoutNever

Niko is that troubled teenager inside of all of us. The part of you that feels scrappy and unlovable, the part that gets pushed down but keeps coming back up no matter what you do.

Niko is a little- unlike the rest of the Warren who are older teenagers, Niko is about 14 mentally.

Niko is the Warren member who takes the most pride in being queer/nonbinary. Besides Percy they would be the most likely member to try dating.

Niko is the latest Warren member to split, a couple years ago as opposed to the other members who split in childhood. They split from Harper.

Niko being a stoat caused my co-author Egge to fall in love with stoats, so that animal is now her non-pokemon sona. Niko is Egge's favorite character, and she roleplayed as Shadowheart in our workshop server for months until she lost Discord Nitro.

Niko is probably the most popular character besides Piper and Kai.

The reason Niko uses drugs like tobacco is because they find it exciting. But they are mainly the sort to use drugs socially- they don't really have a habit of smoking or drinking alone.

SPB Thoughts on the Pipe Up Cast- QUINN

Theme: Heart of Stone, Six: The Musical

Quinn is kinda based on a mode my system has. (It's not MY mode, but the mode of a headmate.) He's also heavily, heavily inspired by an alter my partner split around the time of writing.

Quinn in my opinion is a prime example of how Pipe Up is about love. Self-love, love between alters, and love interpersonal. He is probably the character who embodies this the most alongside Piper.

Quinn does not enjoy fronting. It makes him uncomfortable to connect to the Warren's body. He prefers to hang in the back or in the Hideaway.

Quinn is one of the earliest splits. He and Percy split at the same time. Every other alter followed afterward.

Quinn is quite insular and asocial. He can often be found on his own. When he fronts, he is often alone since his size pushes others back. He even sometimes has a hard time speaking verbally when fronting.

Despite the above bullet, Quinn loves Kai and doesn't mind spending time with him.

Quinn is the most anxious of the Warren. He can be hypervigilant without realizing. He can also be easily triggered by certain environmental cues.

Quinn can be quite secretive and hold a lot in. He's not one to come forward with problems, and issues he can't solve on his own will leave him feeling stuck. He is at the ready whenever there is a physical threat, but things like social or personal issues can trigger his inaction/avoidance.

SPB Thoughts on the Pipe Up Cast- HARPER

Theme: Lemon Drop, Raynes

Harper is the Warren's social facilitator. She will often front in social settings where there are more strangers and acquaintances than close friends/family. Harper's main haunts are school, church, extracurriculars, and parties.

Harper is the main reason Percy has a generally positive reputation at school. He manages the Warren's image/impression/reputation.

We originally thought about making Harper a peacock, but I believe it was Tiny(?) who eventually suggested they be a songbird. So we went with eastern bluebird.

Harper's loyalties rest with the Warren alone. With others outside the system, she can be quite cutthroat at times. She is not nurturing like Piper, but she loves Piper and Quinn and LOOOVES Percy.

I mentioned in Piper's post that Piper is based on one of my modes. Harper is kind of like the other side of that mode. While Piper carries the traits of nurture and unconditional love, Harper holds the impression maintenance and unattached nature underneath. So if you combine these two characters, you basically have a whole of one of my parts.

He loves nothing more than gossip... besides Percy.

I got my first tattoo today. I now have Bramble on my left arm! This is the original concept I drew for the tattoo. The final version (on my skin) is a liiittle different.

I eternally have a lot of love for Bramble. They are a really important character to my growth as a person. I'm really happy they're on my body now lol. I want to get one for each comic I finish!
