"Speaking Mathematically" by David Pimm (1987) ... I went in certain that there is a language that we call "mathematics" but we fail to approach even elementary mathematics from the perspective of language instruction ... Half way through, i think i am on board with his characterization of a "mathematical register" in English built through metaphors ... but, for me, that doesn't negate the existence of a language called "mathematics" Also ... totally convinced that teachers MUST keep students informed as to "how" and "why" decisions are made in class ... not a novel idea for me, but a reoccuring theme in this book
