/Fool’s Gold/
words by @caolark
art by @takecare-bewell
three stars whizzed by, lighting up night’s sky
the sleeping city pier, his wooden footsteps bare, gaze anchored so deeply groundwards
the comets flicker dimly against the colors in his mind
blazing, blazing
stars have no memories, and look how radiant they glow
but he, he scintillates with things remembered
a flame in a clay jar, a weed inside a rock wall: a thing devoured inside out
amidst the cinder and encroaching seed, he discovers a single need
he turns his gaze to the glaring sky, the planets shimmer in his eyes, and he prays…
…let me believe in something
