I never really had my life planned out-knowing what it would look like after 10 years, 20 years, etc. I would say that I NEVER would have guessed that I’d be where I am today.  I’d probably even venture to say I have been blessed beyond what I could have imagined.  My life may not be anything like what you would want and if you’d asked me after I graduated from college, I might have said it wasn’t what I was wanting either but now that I look back and forward, I’m quite pleased with things.  Sure I have a few regrets...some things I wish I could go back and do over, but who doesn’t?  I started teaching school in Honduras but only for 6 months but that was enough to help build my Spanish to a level I felt comfortable with.  I came back to the states and taught a year in Little Rock.  That was a rough job and not my favorite job.  I remember making copies with the mimeograph machine and how much time and effort that took.  Sure don’t miss that!  Then I moved to Tyler, Texas and taught in a Christian school for 4 years.  Loved that job!  I enjoyed teaching middle schoolers, teaching Spanish and coaching. I got to take kids to visit Christian colleges and other educational road trips.  I made some great friends with whom I am still in contact.  I moved to Mesquite to teach high school Spanish at Dallas Christian.  Another door opened by God!  I loved my experiences there, the kids I taught and the people I worked with.  It was there that I was allowed to get my Masters degree for free.  I look back and I struggle with people who say there isn’t a God.  I can see his hand in so many areas of my life.  He has opened, and closed, so many doors in my life and I have no doubt that God is good, all the time.  I got burned out of teaching and decided to put in my application with American Airlines, got hired on as a flight attendant and based out of Dallas.  I never would have thought when I was goofing off in Spanish class with my high school friends, that Spanish would become such a huge part of my life and would open so many doors and guide my life direction on many occasions.  Let me give you an example:  I know I was hired by American Airlines because I spoke Spanish, I know I was picked to be based in Dallas (where I was already living and wanted to stay) because I was a Spanish speaker.  I was able to hold lines (monthly schedules) that people of my seniority couldn’t because I was a “speaker.”  That is just one example of many…I could type paragraphs filled with the blessings I have received by choosing to learn Spanish.  I have had such a fun life and Lord willing, there’s so much left to experience.  (To be continued…)
