Yoongi really wanted to make Taemin’s birthday perfect. He knew that, despite his enthusiasm for others’ birthdays, his fiancé did not really like his own-- some combination of fearing growing old and missing his family, admittedly two things that Yoongi could not relate to. However, there was a slight problem: buying Taemin a lavish engagement ring had left him pretty damn broke and his partner loved expense and luxury. He really was not sure if ‘it’s the thought that counts’ would cut it, but that was all he had.

So he was going thrifty with it, hoping that maybe he could pull off something Taemin would like without breaking the bank. That was a mistake.

He had decided to try to make a cake; two tiers, buttercream frosting and simple gold decorations. After nearly two hours of work, he ended up with a cake that looked like it was going to fall over at any moment and had had a golden goose poop all over it. Panicking because he knew Taemin would be home any moment, he resorted to dumping a bunch of rainbow sprinkles on top, but he thought that somehow made it look worse. 

He was staring at the finished product in horror when he heard the door open. Too late to do anything about it now. So he tried to wipe some flour off his face, picked up the cake and took it to present it to his fiancé. “Happy birthday?” He said uncertainly, offering a nervous smile and trying to block the other’s view of the disastrous kitchen.
