Please tell me someone's asked for the trash baby Kung Jin for the headcanon meme. If not, please do the trash baby. ( ◕o◕)
Trash baby Kung Jin headcanon meme goodness it is, then. Thanks ever so much, hun. :3
KUNG JIN HEADCANONS:
As a child, Kung Lao’s nickname for Jin was “Soneya”, which is Punjabi for “beloved/trusted one”, although on the front it means “my golden one” (which makes sense because Jin’s name means “gold” anyway) (Lao, being surrounded by Nepali/Indian monks at the Wu Shi Academy, came upon the nickname there and thought it fit his cousin perfectly). Jin was adored by his older cousin, who influenced him in many ways and was his idol for many years until his death. So, no one has called Jin “Soneya” in years … so you can imagine how painful it must be when he confronts Lao years later in the Netherrealm, saying, “Don’t you recognise me? It’s me, your soneya. I want to help you …”
Jin isn’t the type of person to give names to material things or personal possessions, but Longwei, his dragon-head bow/staff, is the exception to the rule. Longwei is Chinese for “dragon greatness“; his bow/staff was bestowed to him jointly by Raiden and the White Lotus Society a few years after Lao’s death and when they saw that Jin had exceptional skill in archery (probably some time after Jin’s family gifted Raiden with their family heirloom in honour of Lao’s memory). In other words, they recognised his potential for being great and heroic. Longwei is Jin’s most trusted weapon in his arsenal.
Given that at the Wu Shi Academy he was surrounded by some warrior monks who hailed from as far as India and Nepal (such as Kai, who is Nepali), Jin developed an appreciation for classic Indian music, namely Hindustani and Carnata (the latter which he finds quite soothing in times of stress). He also appreciates Bhaṅgṛā, which is slightly more upbeat. And then he has a guilty pleasure for Bollywood music - you know, Indian movie songs. Jin can’t resist watching those movies, either.
Jin still hasn’t come out to his friends and family yet. Only Raiden (and possibly a few elder Shaolin monks) knows about his being homosexual. I read somewhere that the Chinese culture is quite strict about LGBT-related matters, so for Jin it must be even harder since he’s a trained Shaolin monk who is meant to abstain from any kind of romantic relationships. Perhaps this explains why he is often rude, callous and sassy to people because he’s still feeling some pent-up angst about his hiding his orientation. That he was a thief in the past also adds to that angst; even though he’s accepted his thieving past, he still feels a bit of shame. Maybe before he goes off to recover Lao, he plucks up the courage to admit to his parents that he’s gay. In other words, Jin feels like an outsider (maybe that’s why he’s the only one who cares enough to help Lao, who has also become an outsider due to his revenant status).
Jin is … very sensitive in the back area. The nape of his neck, his shoulder-blades, the base of his back … one rub or caress or virtually any kind of contact there is enough to make the man lose control by a ten-fold. It was especially awkward when he was taking archery lessons when he was younger, because when his instructor or an experienced fellow student would help Jin to aim his arrows at the target, this would require them virtually pressing themselves against his back and helping him hold his bow …And where am I going with this headcanon, exactly? To hell, probably …
There are more headcanons for this trash baby, but I think the above ones are okay for now. ^3^
