If only there was someone who is willing to listen.
My birthday was on Saturday. I didn't have a debut. For two reasons, I don't have nearly enough people to fill up the roses, candles, or whatever. Not because I don't have any friends, but because I hold people close to my heart but I'm not as close to theirs. Second...There is no second reason. I started off the day with these thoughts. Needless to say, it wasn't a happy morning for me. Oh, I was also sick and sounded like a chain smoker. Well yeah, my parents come home (late) and gave me a bouquet of 18 roses and a card. Yaaaaay. My mom was smiling. I wish I could say my dad was smiling. I went over to Argee's place and I find a giant Totoro waiting for me O_O. Totoro was also holding Argee's debut album and a ghey letter. I watched, and tried to understand, DotA. But I failed. Seriously. What even. Strategy games aren't my thing. I don't play chess for a reason. So after that game finished we watched part of Spirited Away. I got to pick out what he had to wear for my birthday dinner and he did part of my make up. Birthday dinner was awkward but I didn't care because I knew I was gonna eat all of the ice cream I wanted. We ran into my cousins there and I introduced Argee to them. More awkward. The car ride home was fun. My commentary on KPop is great. Kuya and I were singing and then there was Argee...just sitting there. When we got home, my parents sang to me and I blew out my candles. Then, my birthday was over. I didn't know what to expect that day. Or what to feel. At most I was hoping to get greetings from my friends, or the people I hold dear to my heart. Some did, some didn't. But I wasn't too heartbroken. I waited for a call from my grandma. But it never came. I'm still waiting. My last thought that night was: aren't birthdays the day when people usually try to show you if you're important to them? If that's the case then I guess I'm not very important. But I don't blame anyone. It's hard to hug a porcupine. Guess I'm simply not worth it. Guess it's my fault for expecting more than nothing. But it's okay. Oh well. Just a bitter, old 18 year-old.
Always disappointing are the mornings of birthdays.

Confessions of a bitter old teenager I really don't understand the concept of this Breast Cancer Awareness Spirit Week business at school. Why? Because there is no breast cancer involved. Yes, think pink. And solely pink. As in, exclude the cancer part. Daily announcements to wear your superhero attire on Monday, dress pink on Wednesday, having a dodgeball game on Thursday, and let's not forget having a dance in order to "crown the class with the most spirit." Yeah, I'd like to see you participate in the Relay for Life, Cancer Challenge, etc. Unless some of the profits from the dodgeball game and dance are going towards finding a cure. At any rate, tell me, how many of these people who don pink know about breast cancer? Are actually AWARE? That women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing it. That a predicted nearly 300,000 cases will be diagnosed in the US (women only, invasive and CIS combined)....(YEAH THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF BREAST CANCER DID YOU KNOW THAT??) That a predicted ~36,000 of these cases will end in death. That breast cancer is the second leading cancer to cause death in women, lung cancer being the first. Because to me, the point of breast cancer awareness (any disease awareness in general) is to bring attention to it AND towards prevention and finding a cure. Like hey, breast cancer is pretty bad so tell your mom, aunt, grandma to have an annual mammogram - it's the reason mortality rates have decreased since 1989. So yes please wear pink and just know pink is the color for the breast cancer ribbon yeah. /sarcasm Really. Don't tell people to wear pink without telling them why. *I don't mean to offend anyone, but really. This week seemed extremely superficial and was just an excuse for the student body to wear pink, superhero stuff. *No one cares about my opinion anyway ^^
Well. Bullshit day. The best part? My PI gave me cute erasers. Oh well.
