Unlisting All My YouTube Videos
I will soon be making the videos on my youtube channel ‘Unlisted’. This means they will not be able to be searched for on YouTube or through Google.
Unfortunately, a member of my immediate family has become aware of a bald patch on my scalp. I fear she may be likely trying to research why I may have it, and I’m simply not ready/don’t want to discuss it. The idea of telling my family makes me feel embarrassed, stupid, pathetic and so very ashamed. I realise when it come to mental health it’s ‘important to talk’ but it is so difficult.
The thought of her finding key words related to my channel mortifies me. I feel she’d likely only think me pathetic. Seeing as my video “How do I know I have Dermatillomania?...” is one of the first to come up when searching for Derma, I’ve decided to Unlist it. Maybe for just a while or maybe indefinitely. Originally I made my vlogs for others with the condition to be able to learn and share in their experiences so knowing that this won’t be visible on YouTube searches is upsetting.
My videos will however be viewable through visiting the ‘Playlists’ tab at the top of my channel and seeing them all through there.
I know this is not practicing what so many preach, but I’m at a time in my life with no job and these conditions help me get through the weeks. I feel they are the only gratification I have left. Ironically: the only thing keeping me sane and feeling alive.
I’m very sorry that I’m not doing what is ‘right’. But for me, right now, I won’t allow those around me to know of these conditions.
