Not anon, but I myself am a bit put off by the conspiracy theories, like you said, and also the constant demands and expectations that it be made canon. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if Byler went canon, but I don't need my ships to be canon in order to ship them, and I miss the days when shipping something didn't mean demanding something from creators. Shippers are basically harassing creators on Twitter over ships now, and seem to think they're being cute.
@spectaculacularmooseketeer Yeah you pretty much summed up my views. Especially the bit about the presumptive behaviour around Byeler going canon. Like you said, it would be nice if it went canon, but my shipping it does not depend on it going canon. And there is no part of my brain that actually believes it will go canon. Like none. But that’s fine. I ship it because I like the characters together and love their dynamic. What happens in canon is a separate thing.
(by the way this is not me condemning people for thinking or hoping Byeler will go canon - y’all do you. it only becomes an issue for me when y’all become presumptuous)
And yeah this whole trend of calling creators of media homophobic if they don’t provide you with the ship or the ship content that you want is really ridiculous and makes me uncomfortable. Like just because you built something up in your mind and are excited about it doesn’t mean you are entitled to it. That’s not how the world works.
Also like you said, its not a cute look at all. :/
