There was an unfamiliar presence hovering near her realm, and Mara was waiting to see what it did. They had detected the unknown vessel at the edge of Reef space a couple of hours ago, but it had yet to breach their borders, so Mara saw no reason to take action. It had come closer since, but it seemed to know that it was reaching a line that was not to be crossed.
“What do you think, brother?” she asked, looking to the man at her right. Uldren shifted his weight back and forth, a frown creasing his brow.
“Ignore it, or chase it off. I see no reason to invite within our borders,” he replied. This didn’t surprise Mara in the least; her brother was not very welcoming to outsiders, but this time he had a good reason. The ship at their borders was a warship of some kind, but it had yet to make a broadcast that could be read as friendly or hostile.
“We’ll see,” she said to her brother, before leaning forward to press a comm on the panel in front of her. “I want two Corsairs to approach the vessel; if it is friendly, allow it passage. If not, you may fire at will.”
As soon as she had straightened she could see two blue Reef ships uncurling themselves from the wreckage of the Reef and shooting off towards the strange ship. She linked herself in to the comm to listen in on what was being said between her Corsairs, and this strange ship.
“Unknown vessel,” said one Corsair, broadcasting across a few different frequencies in hopes of catching one this unknown vessel was using, “you have crossed into the realm of the Awoken. Identify yourself and state your business, or be fired on by order of the Queen.”
