“So part A needs to be connected with part F with three of the ½ inch screws, then parts B through E go…whaaattttt?” I scratched at my head as I looked down at the paper in front of me. The instructions to the new entertainment entertainment center I had recently purchased might as well been in another language and the diagrams could have easily been mistaken for hieroglyphics. I was never good at these type of things. I could have had the furniture deliverers put it together but I was on a budget- broke college student here. But I never thought I would have to be a NASA engineer to put together a homely entertainment center.
Okay so I was over exaggerating but did it really have to be this complicated? I wasn’t supposed to be tackling this task by myself anyways. Where the hell was Chris? I hounded him about helping me all last week and he finally broke down and promised he would once he got back into town this week. He had been back about three days now and I had yet to see him. To be honest I kind of missed him.
“That loser,” I scoffed, letting the instructions fall from my grasp before I uncrossed my legs and pushed myself off the floor. I carefully stepped between the scattered pieces of the center and procured my iPhone off its charger. Unlocking the phone as I headed over towards my patio doors, I called Chris and waited for him to answer. Moving a few of the vertical blinds to the side, looked out, focusing on the falling rain and the woods beyond. The storm was starting to roll in- lightning veined across the night sky and thunder rumbled closely behind. I hope he got here before the storm did decide to hit.
“Hey, you’ve reached Chris-” Chris’ voicemail picked up and I sucked at my teeth and waited for the phone to beep so I could leave a message.
“Yo, where are you? You forget about me? You’re supposed to be helping me, remember?” I pouted like a little kid. “I hope you beat this storm though. They said it’s going to be a bad one. Call me back, alright. And please, be safe.”
I sighed, looking out the patio doors once more before letting the blinds drop back into place. Thunder cracked outside again and I nearly jumped out of my skin, hearing the distinct sound of heavy rain- the storm was pounding now. I was getting a little worried.
The lights in my apartment flickered, another roll of thunder shook at the walls, and then someone was knocking at the door, causing me to jump for the second time. Hopefully it was Chris. I hurried to the door.
“Who is it?” I squinted out the peep hole, jumping ack when I saw an eye looking back at me.
“Jordin,” A familiar voice called out to me and I pulled open the door. Chris stood in the threshold with water trailing down his face and dripping from his jacket. He had gotten caught in the sudden downpour. His chest heaved a bit and I figured he had jogged up the two flights of stairs. “Are you gonna stand there staring or are you going to let me in,” His voice cut into my thoughts and I blinked, looking into his face before stepping aside so he could step into the apartment. “Oh, sorry,” I apologized, my bottom lip tucked into my teeth as I closed and locked the door while Chris made his way into my living area but not before he kicked off his shoes. “So I see you were waiting for me to do all the work.” He said, shrugging off his wet jacket and taking in the miniature chaos on the living room floor. “Yep, I’m gonna let you go from here and I’m just gonna sit back and supervise your work.” He let out a ‘hmph’ and I laughed at him, taking the jacket from him and going to hang it up in the hall closet. When I returned to the living area, I found Chris staring out the patio doors. I leant against the wall, taking this moment to study him. He looked so good standing there, in his jeans and t-shirt, with his blond curly hair a bit wet from the rain. How could someone ooze so much swag doing the simplest thing? I could say that Chris and I were friends- very good friends. We were more than friends with benefits but less than being in an official relationship. I did care about him but I wasn’t sure if I was in love with him. I asked myself that all the time and the answer sort of scared me, especially when I wasn’t looking to get into another relationship due to my disastrous one with Shawn. “Jordin,” Chris’s voice pierced my thoughts and I looked at him. “Come here.” Chewing down on my bottom lip, I let my feet sink into slow and shaky steps towards him. I watched as his tongue slithered out of his mouth and slide across his lips. Walking into his embrace, I felt him kiss my forehead and I rested my head into his neck inhaling the smell of rain water and his cologne. He wrapped his arms around me, his fingertips dancing on the skin underneath the tank top I wore. “So how was your trip? Mimi get all moved in at K-State?” “It was fine, I guess. Yeah, she’s moved in. She loves it there so far. She’s a traitor though now.” “I know, right? I don’t know why she just didn’t come to KU. She got accepted here too didn’t she?” I felt him shrug. “She did and I told her that. But I think she thinks I would have been too over protective.” “Wellllll,” I drew out. “You would have been.” “I knew you’d take her side,” Chris said as some thunder rumbled violently outside again, shaking the windows and I jumped further into his embrace. “Scary ass.” He chuckled and I pinched his side. “Don’t laugh at me, Christopher. And I’m not taking your sister’s side. It’s the truth and you know it.” “Yeah, whatever. So did you miss me?” He asked, his fingers moving from the small of my back to trace a bit of my spine. I shuddered and quickly grabbed at his forearms to step out of his embrace. “Um, of course I didn’t duh?” I looked at him like the answer should have been obvious. “You’re such a bad liar, girl,” He said, reaching out to tuck my hair behind my ear, letting his fingers stroked the curve of my neck. I closed my eyes briefly enjoying his caress. “But that’s okay, you’ll be telling the truth before the night is over.” I moved to grasp his fingers in mines, stopping him from continuing his stroke down my shoulder. “You sure are convinced I’m lying. And even if I was, which I’m not, what makes you think I will be?” I asked. “Trust me. I have my ways.” I rolled my eyes and let go of his hand. “Ok, whatever you say, boy. But about this center- I’m like totally clueless.” I went to retrieve the instructions from where I dropped them and I could feel Chris’s eyes just staring a hole in my backside. “Stop staring at my ass, loser” I ordered Chris, catching him and he blushed a bit. He laughed then shrugged. “I can’t help it, Jor. It’s like it’s calling me. Chris. Chris.” He gazed at me again chewing at his bottom lip slowly and I nearly jumped his bones then and there. Did he realize how incredibly sexy he was when he did that or maybe he did know and was why he continuously did it - to drive me crazy. He was like the LL Cool J of lip biting. Prying my vision from his lips, I swept my eyes up to his and instantly wished I had looked somewhere else. His eyes got to me more than seeing his teeth latching onto his bottom lip. Gah! I visibly fidgeted and tore my eyes from his. “Like I said, you’re a loser,” I giggled and shook my head at him, willing the tightening of my stomach to go away. “So about this….” I attempted to get back on subject and held the instructions out to him even though he wore a knowing smile. He stepped towards me, taking the instructions from my hand and they found their way to the floor…again. He stepped forward again causing me to move backwards and my back met the wall. Our eyes locked and I could feel the familiar spark of chemistry jolt between us. It was so strong it sort of scared me. I drew in a small breath of air as he flattened his hands against the wall on either side of my face and he was as close as he could be without touching me. “Chris, really…” I started and he cut me off with a shhhh. He leaned into me more before speaking. “Don’t move.” He ordered and drew his tongue over his lips, slightly grazing mines as he did so. That certainly wasn’t going to help if he wanted me to stay still. My heart was pounding in my chest as he dropped one hand to caress my cheek and let his thumb gently trace my lips. I nearly lost it when his other fingers followed suit. My fingers and palms were pressed painfully against the wall when I wanted nothing more to grab his face and kiss him, to feel his mouth on mines. And if this was what he meant earlier about getting me to admit the truth about missing him, he was going to need to come harder- no pun intended I swear- than this. It was not going to be this easy. He was saying something now but fuck I just wanted him to kiss me already! “Did you hear me?” I blinked and refocused on his face. “What?” “I said you’re so gorgeous, Jor.” “You’re just saying that to get into my pants.” I blushed. “No, I’m not. I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true, Jordin. You’re fucking beautiful.” I didn’t responded, not because I didn’t want to but because he finally captured my lips with his own, his hand still caressing my face. My knees literally weakened and Chris moved to wrap an arm around my waist so I wouldn’t fall to the floor. I couldn’t hold still any longer, especially when I parted my lips and his tongue invaded my mouth to begin wrestling with mines. My fingers tugged desperately at his t-shirt as our lips meshed against each other’s and his hands slid down my waist and hips and he reached around to grip my butt, pulling me further into him. I broke the kiss first because I really needed to catch my breath, though that didn’t stop Chris from trailing kisses from my lips, to my cheek, and to my neck. “So, you really ain’t miss me. Not just a little bit” Chris asked, swirling his tongue against the hollow of my neck. I drew out a long breath, shaking my head no, knowing damn well I had. “Nope, not at all.” He stopped and looked me in the eyes, his own on fire with desire, so much I could feel my skin heating up under his intense gaze. He intertwined his fingers with mines, lifting my hand and giving the back of it a kiss. “I guess we’re gonna have to change that, aren’t we?” He said and began leading me to my room. Fucckkkk. This was going to be interesting.
