80-to gadu beigas, Komptona, Kalifornija. Pieci melnādaini jaunieši cenšas izrauties no skarbās ielu vides, savu neapmierinātību un sāpi izliekot mūzikā. Viņu vārdi — Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Easy-E, DJ Yella un M.C. Ren — drīzumā kļūs par hiphopa ikonām, bet grupas ceļš uz panākumiem ir grūtībām, ciešanām, sāpēm un ložu čaulām klāts… Filmā redzēsim arī tādas hiphopa leģendas, kā Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur un Suge Knight.

Filmas veidotāji strādāja kā vienota ģimene — Ice Cube lomu filmā atveido viņa dēls, O’Shea Jackson junior, filmēšana notika Komptonas ielās, bet tās režisors F. Gary Gray savulaik uzņēma arī vienu no ievērojamākajiem Ice Cube videoklipiem dziesmai “It Was a Good Day”. Visbeidzot, tieši šī filma iedvesmoja Dr. Dre ierakstīt jaunu un savu pēdējo albumu pēc 16 gadu pārtraukuma — “Compton: A Soundtrack” noteikti jau jūsu ikdienas playlist’ē!

Film Festival "Spektrs II", day 09.11.2014.

Today wasn't as prolific as yesterday, but I still got some pretty exciting thing to tell about. This is not a review, at least I hope so

So, for me it all started with a presentation about movies that are soon to be screened. Particularly, Hollywood movies. We saw some new film trailers, some of which people have not seen yet. Also, we had a short message from Vin Diesel with "Fast And Furious 7" trailer afterwards. The last things we had the pleasure to look at was "Avengers: Age of Ultron" trailer. If you thought it was marvelous, think about it all on the big screen!

After the presentation good guys from "Spektrs" gave us a chance to get some pretty rad movie posters made by a truly awesome artist Harijs Grundmanis (his work can be seen and purchased at harrymovieart.com - go and see the genius posters (and t-shirts) he has made!) I, as a little Marvel geek, got two movie posters made for movies that had James McAvoy in them. So there's that. I am quite pleased.

The seriously awesome business started when I got to see the last movie of this film festival. It was a movie by Alejandro González Iñárritu called "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" which was a great piece of art. First of all, it is made to feel like a one long shot, which is a tehnique I have always loved in Joe Wright's movies, but this really was taking this to another level. It also had some pretty decent actors such as our Marvel star Emma Stone as the main characters daughter, Michael Keaton as the birdman and Edward Norton as a character that I grew to love very dearly (but who ended up being abruptly taken away from the audience). It is hard to describe the movie, so I am not going to do that. Also, it would be very hard, because the movies is not yet released (the official release date for UK is 2nd of January) and I do not want to spoil anything. Just know that you should go to this movie, even if you really seem to have no interest, because this was an interesting experience.

Once again: in love with Xavier Dolan

So, I predicted that I will have an opportunity to see "Tom à la ferme" in a kino-festival (Spektrs) that takes place in one of our kino-theathres. But they actually made me a lot happier!

They are going to screen "Tom à la ferme" from THIS FRIDAY! I am super excited. Even went to ask my dad for extra money, because I have no left after every god damn gift I have bought for upcoming celebrations.

And that's not even the best part! "Mommy" is going to be screened on previously mentioned kino-festival (Spektrs)! I am all over the moon, seriously! Two Xavier Dolan movies within one month on. a. big. screen? It's wonderful!
