Since the music!AU seems to be the topic of the moment I though I’d take time to share my thoughts. If someone were to do that kind of story, a premise that I think would work well would be something along the lines of AKB49. If you’ve never read the manga, it’s about a guy who discovers his crush’s dream to be a member of the idol group akb48 and that she’s going to try out for the last time but she’s really nervous and doesn’t have much confidence. [1/4]
So, because he has a pretty face and a slim figure the protag decides to secretly join the audition so he can support her. And then surprise, surprise, he actually gets in because the director found him interesting. And then his crush is so happy for him he ends up actually doing it so he can keep supporting her, but then of course he dragged in by the atmosphere, hard work, and dedication from the group. [2/4]
So yeah, I think I could see something similar happening with Tsuna and Kyoko, Tsuna’s feelings for her are actually quite similar to those of the guy for his crush actually. Then Reborn could be his personal trainer (which they didn’t have in the manga but who cares, maybe he could be the director instead) and of course he would immediately figure out that Tsuna’s a boy but decides to actually help him keep up the charade (because he’s very good at disguise and because he finds it amusing)[3/4]
The fact that Tsuna couldn’t sing wouldn’t matter either. The guy in akb49 couldn’t at all (but then he begged one of his sempai to help teach him because he didn’t want to drag his crush down, and worked hard to learn how). I could also see something like this happening in canon if Kyoko decided to become an idol, probably almost entirely because of Reborn. [4/4]
This is pretty interesting, but I can’t quite envision it as well probably because I didn’t watch AKB49. And I can see Tsuna getting dragged into the idol world because he wants to help Kyoko and stuff. However, due to the many instances of idol!27 or singer!27 in the fandom, I’m afraid that I would get influenced by them so I’m very reluctant to make Tsuna sing (and get described to have an angelic voice, etc.) I don’t really want to make Tsuna crossdress for the entire thing as well, because something about it just... irks me?
Still, food for thought I guess.
Or maybe if Tsuna decides to masquerade as a girl, he will be very much overlooked because he’s really withdrawn because he doesn’t feel too comfortable in getting mistaken for a girl (because being constantly mistaken as the other gender is really hurtful. i would know)
His male persona, however, gets very much noticed by everyone in the industry. Because he’s so painfully ordinary wtf is he doing here? Obviously he’s some stagehand, right? And then, during his free time, he gets dragged to many different sets to help out. and meets other characters.
(I don’t like cliches too much, though.)
