hey o mighty cat color master, my lynx point cat had a surgery on his hip and the fur growing on the incision line is black in a sea of fur coming in cream, can you explain this? The only other place he has such dark fur are the very tips of his ears.
okay this sounds like a weird one and I can only really guess, especially not having seen the cat and not knowing what the base color is. Usually if fur grows back a different color over scar tissue it turns lighter or white, but if the cat is a brown tabby (which it sounds like it is from the dark ear tips?) then it could be either a conveniently-placed tabby stripe that isn’t being affected by the enzyme that causes the colorpoint look, or for some reason the new fur is deciding to ignore both the agouti and the albinism and just powering straight through to solid black. it’s not something I’ve heard of but it seems at least plausible.
if the cat is red-based though I have no explanation other than “idk man nature does weird things.”
