Mummy was tired. Really tired. She was not drinking enough water. She was not doing daily Hiit workouts. She hadn’t been taking multivitamins. She was not eating a diet consisting of predominantly raw plants and sad things. She was not avoiding alcohol. She was not sleeping for 8 hours a night. She had not managed to finish a cup of tea whilst it was still hot since before Brexit. And she definitely hadn’t worn a bra with real-life wires in since pre 2012. She hadn’t cleared the breakfast bowls away. She hadn’t brushed her hair. She was so bored of hearing her own voice continuously asking small children to brush their teeth every morning. She hadn’t brushed her teeth. She hadn’t cleaned, hoovered and tidied the house. She hadn’t spent the pandemic honing new skills, finally learning to play the piano, or re-organising and colour coding her spice drawer. She also didn’t have a spice drawer because it was being used for felt-tips without lids, Cars, Tupperware lids that didn’t match any bottoms, and her own tears. She needed to have a shower. But the effort of washing, drying and straightening her hair seemed even more draining the sorting out the drawer that was previously the spice drawer. She hadn’t really got her s**t together at all. But then mummy decided she’d completely run out of any s**ts to give. Because the kids were happy and clean and loved and had everything they needed. And she had February to become the water-drinking-vitamin-taking-plant-eating-squat-champion she knew was hidden (very hidden) inside of her. (And that February would become March and March would become summer and summer would become 2023...) But that it didn’t matter. Because right now she was going to have a hot cup of tea, watch something other than Peppa-blooming-Pig on Netflix, and maybe later she’d sort out her spice drawer. (And brush her teeth.) The end.
