Yeah! So a lot of the overlying geology of Oregon isvolcanic in origin, including Deschutes County. The Bend area has some of theyoungest volcanic activity in Oregon, and has had a history of basaltic andandesitic lava flows with more explosive volcanic deposits like tuffs andpumices (stuff that’s been extruded into the air basically) generallyoverlaying that. Most of the lava flows are a product of Newberry Volcano, which is where the Lava Lands visitor center is. This area is famous for its lavatube caves, which form when still hot lava is surrounded by cooled lava andthen it drains out because it is still liquid, leaving an empty channel(Someone please take me to see these). Many other buttes, cinder cones, and largervolcanoes make up the landscape surrounding Bend, including some of the highcascades. There are places where you can see the sedimentary rocks thatunderlay the volcanic stuff in this region, particularly where the Deschutes Riverhas done extensive downcutting. If you have any pictures of stuff you want more detail on send them my way! I hope this helps, and thanks for asking andposting nice pictures on Instagram! ‘ u ‘
