I feel like this isn't talked about much.

When Harry was used to getting spiders in his cupboard, I imagine he gets the regular sized spiders we find in a particularly dusty corner of our houses.

But when Ron describes how Fred turned his teddy bear into a spider when he was three, I don't think Fred gave him a teeny tiny one. I imagine the teddy spider would be a huggable size of an eight legged creature.

In conclusion, Ron's fear of spiders? Valid.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is a big difference between fuzzy spiders and smooth ones

Fuzzy spiders? They can be reasoned with. Sometimes they can be moderately cute but they are the ones with the intellect and will actually respect the fact that you have to put them into the outdoors sometimes

Smooth spiders know they snuck in for blood and they are not leaving until they get it, they are angry and will attack you on a whim. Smooth spiders are the fuckers that will jump at you just to hear your screams before hiding just to make you paranoid for the next week because you haven’t seen heads or legs of them, and that’s when they strike

Lol, nothing to worry about. Its just something I’m a bit butthurt over.

So, after the last video, we learned that Virgil has a pet spider. Since we as Fanders feel the need to name everything, immediately people wanted to name the pet spider.

I suggested the name “Angel,” because we used to theorize that Virgil’s name was Angel, and the whole video was about past phases and accepeting and respecting where you came from.

People liked the name Angel.

Then, a big blog suggested the name “Susan” because they liked that name. I asked them why that name, and they said “it just looks like a Susan.”

There was a poll, and people picked the name “Angel.” The big blog basically said “I don’t care, I’m calling it Susan” because they’re a big blog and think they can just do whatever they want and that their voice speaks for the majority, even though it literally doesn’t. The poll showed otherwise.

So, half the fandom calls the spider “Angel” because that’s what the popular vote chose, and half called it “Susan” because one blog decided that’s what its called.

It’s not actually a big deal, it just really pisses me off because I don’t like how cocky the big blog was about it. They just decided the spider’s name because they think they have the power to. Its annoying, and not fair to smaller blogs. 

It’s hard enough to have your voice heard in a fandom of thousands. When people support your idea, and CHOOSE your idea? And then its just vetoed because one person decided they were right? Its really really frustrating and unfair.

BUT THERE SHOULD NOT EVER BE MORE OF HIM.

Nigel is a Mojave spider ball python, and he has a gentic defect which causes his head to wobble. In some spider morphs, the wobble can be so bad that their quality of life is deeply impacted and their lives shortened. Nigel is lucky that his wobble isn't worse, but proper husbandry, special care, and regular vet visits go a long way in managing the disorder.

I am not a resource for information on spider morphs, but I can talk about my boy, Nigel, and how the detect affects him.

He was adopted from somebody downsizing their beep collection, not purchased from a breeder or pet store. He will never, ever be bred, and I intend to care for him for the rest of his (and my) life to ensure that he is well looked after and not used for breeding more spider morphs. I don't think people should produce animals that may live miserable lives due to their genes. No lie that spiders are f*cking gorgeous, but please. Let's prioritize animal welfare over aesthetics.
