Ingredients: 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Black gel food coloring. Royal icing for decorating.
Instructions: Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium-sized bowl using a whisk. Put away. Put the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl and mix them together until they are light and fluffy. Together with the butter, add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Mix everything together well. Mix the dry and wet ingredients together slowly while adding the dry flour mixture. Keep doing this until the dough comes together. Split the dough in half. Mix in the black gel food coloring to one half and work it in until the color is spread out evenly. Put both halves of the dough in the fridge for at least an hour after cutting them in half. Warm the oven up to 350F 175C and put parchment paper on baking sheets. Each piece of dough should be rolled out to about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut circles out of both types of dough with a round cookie cutter. Put a plain circle on top of a black circle and press them together gently. With a toothpick or a small piping tip, use the black dough to make a spider web pattern on top of the cookies. After decorating the cookies, put them on the baking sheets that have been prepared. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. After baking, let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets. Then, move them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once the cookies are completely cool, you can decorate them however you want with royal icing.
