Cursed Spike redesign.
And here's grown up Spike sketch
M6 + Young Adult Spike designs for my Dispatch x MLP crossover. that's right, i'm committing. at least for right now. here's hoping i don't lose interest/burn/get art block.
my fav design here, twilight hands freaking down - she's gorgeous. least fav prolly applejack or rainbow dash. can never draw applejack for some reason
any, in this mlpverse it's like 50 or so years post twilight's coronation. they may not look it but the M6 are like 60-70 years old. in my au, wearing the elements of harmony all the time has expanded their lifespans, as of right now, by a good like 100+ years. they're not ageless/immortal like twilight and the other alicorns but they ain't dying any time soon.
Dragons are one of the most variable creatures in the world. Individuals are shaped not by genetics, but by their environment and what they want out of life.
Baby dragons can remain in their young form for decades, if the environment isn't right for them to mature. Intense competition, lack of resources, or uncertain emotional development are all reasons for a baby dragon to delay their adult molt.
Once circumstances are right, an intense period of growth begins, and a dragon can multiply its size and sprout new features such as wings in just a few short years.
Pubescent dragons need a huge amount of food (including gem minerals) to sustain their growth. In the dragon lands, this can lead to competition, toughening up a young dragon to face a world of challenges.
Not everything is about fighting tooth and nail. Dragons raised in more cooperative societies are often softer, with less need to develop armor and weaponry. However, if their society faces constant threats, even the softest, kindest dragons will bulk up into formidable creatures in order to defend the ones they love. These individuals are difficult to provoke, easy to make peace with, but impossible to beat once you've threatened their family.
blows the dust off this blog
i always wanted to draw adult Spike's redesign so I did it quickly for fun :3
I wanted him to be gecko-like kinda
strongly inspired by IDLYAM from Vylet Pony
My little dungeon AU Spike !
Teen dragon that was adopted into a family of Canterlot ponies when he was a baby! He is level headed and very smart for his age, and is absolutely fascinated by the fancy hairstyles and unique magic of Canterlotian unicorns. He can not fathom why his big sister Twilight Sparkle doesn't ever bother to make her mane, and makes sure to fix it up for her every morning while she's eating her breakfast.
When him and his sister relocated to Ponyville, he very quickly became best friends with Rarity, not only because they're both at least part dragon but also because of their shared passion for fashion.
Spike is a teen dragon, so he grows Fast. He's expected to grow twice the size he is now, but it's not 100% as he may be a mixbreed of a guardian and sea dragon so he might even triple in size with age.
Spike! I never see many drawings of Spike, so I decided to draw him, as well as give him a bit of a redesign.
I've tried to redesign the mane six in the past, but I always end up struggling with the body proportions. Hopefully I'll be able to dish out some redesigns of them though cuz I have some really good ideas!
can you tell I grew up on Spyro the Dragon?
Spike redesign!!! I decided to make him a wyvern in my au (but with normal hands bc I felt like it). He lives with Twilight in Ponyville, but he's treated more like her brother than her assistant. I don't like how he gets treated like a servant, so when he helps out Twi it's usually because he wants to be part of whatever adventure or project they're working on (although Twilight DOES boss him around sometimes, as older siblings tend to do).
I wanted to give him more sunset-y colors, and I really like how it turned out. Also I think non-ponies also get cutie marks in my au. I just think it's kinda weird that only ponies get them. I think dragon cutie marks look like outlines burned into their scales instead of the colorful sticker look of pony cutie marks. You can't see it because his wing is in the way, but Spike's cutie mark is a bottle of ink with a quill sticking out. I think his talent is being a record keeper and writer. He has a good memory and is advanced for his age when it comes to writing, which is why Twilight relies on him for help them write their letters to Celestia. He probably also helps his sibling remember important details from their adventures or studies.
I also think because he spent all of his life in Canterlot, which is mostly populated by unicorns, he didn't learn how to fly when he was supposed to (and for whatever reason Celestia didn't help him). Maybe when he moves to Ponyville Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Raze try to help him learn to fly, but he struggles for a while do to lack of using his wings (this bit is kind of inspired by @carouselunique 's Swap Six au, where Dinky Doo was raised by her sing pegasus mother, Ditzy Doo, so she is behind in her magic abilities. I wasn't trying to base Spike's flying problems on her work, but it was definitely in the back of my mind when I came up with it, so I want to mention her anyway).
