Two compositionally similar pieces that are fascinating documents of influence but not necessarily among John Zorn’s most compelling works. The flashy, ultra-cool flitting of Godard, the mysterious ‘Inspector Gadget’ tones of thriller writer Mickey Spillane – both would recur in Zorn’s work in the ensuing decade.
