Western Spotted Skunk Spilogale gracilis

It is found throughout the western United States, northern Mexico, and southwestern British Columbia in Canada. Their habitat is mixed woodlands, open areas, and farmlands. They are nocturnal omnivores, feeding on insects, scorpions, small vertebrates, roots, grains, fruit, and berries.

If threatened, the western spotted skunk (Spilogale gracilis) will sometimes perform a handstand.

Southern Spotted Skunk Spilogale angustifrons

Found in Central America, from southern Mexico to Costa Rica. It climbs trees but mainly searches for food on the ground for the small mammals, insects, birds, eggs, grain and fruit on which it feeds. It has anal glands beneath the tail which secrete musk which can be sprayed with considerable accuracy at a predator.
