Some pictures I took of the beautifully-red deserts of Nevada. Some of these almost remind me of the Australian Outback, just “rockier.”

2025-07-09: Shrubland Encounter Map Hazards
This table is for items that are generally stationary and will primarily cause adverse effects/damage to antagonize players. Unless otherwise specified, the hazard is located where the d12 falls on the map.
Shrubland Hazards (d12)
Thorny Bushes. Any creature moving through this 15x15 foot area or ending its turn here must make a DC 10 (DEX) Acrobatics check or take 1d6 piercing damage
Low Branches. A shrub growing into a 15-foot diameter circle has low branches that make contact with Medium or larger creatures who pass through the area. Creatures who do not move at half speed through the affected area take 1d6 Bludgeoning damage as the limbs whip into them.
Narrow Passage. A narrow 5-foot gap goes through the center of a 25-foot square of otherwise impassable terrain. Small or Tiny creatures can traverse the gap without penalty, but Medium or Large creatures must squeeze through.
Insect Webbing. The ground and any vegetation in this 20x20 foot square is covered in sticky webs. The webs do not impede movement, but any creature who enters the webbed area is covered in them with the following effects: attacks and perception checks are made at disadvantage, and the creature takes 1d6 fire damage if the webs come into contact with open flames. Webs can be scraped off with an action.
Wheel Breakers. Wheeled vehicles traveling through this 30x30 foot area have a 1/6 chance of breaking a wheel each time they travel 15 feet over this unforgiving ground.
Ruined House. The stone walls of this 20x25 foot single-room house are crumbling and unstable. Any creature who enters the house has a 1-in-6 chance of getting hit with falling debris for 1d6 Bludgeoning damage. The house provides 3/4 cover against attacks originating from outside the house.
Emerging Sinkhole. Although currently covered by earth, a concave dip 25 feet in diameter indicates a developing sinkhole below. Medium creatures who enter the area have a 1/6 chance of causing the ground to fall away, Large or larger creatures have a 1/3 chance, and any creatures in the area when the ground gives way immediately plummet 20 feet.
Disorienting Vegetation. Creatures who traverse this 20x40 patch of vegetation often become disoriented by the intense smell emanating from it. Each time a creature enters the area or starts its turn there, it has a 1/6 chance to become disoriented and use its remaining move speed to walk a straight line in a random direction.
No Wagon Zone. The terrain here in this 20 x 20 area is particularly difficult. It can be traversed at half speed on foot like normal difficult terrain, mounts are reduced to 10 movement speed, and wagons/carts cannot traverse the area at all.
Debris Lair. Fallen limbs and leaf litter from a dead tree occupy a 15-foot square that counts as difficult terrain. Creatures with caustic bites lurk in the detritus, and each time a creature enters the space, there is a 1/6 chance that the residents will attack the intruder for 1d6 Acid damage.
Parasitic Plants. Creatures who are wounded in this 30x30 area are infected with pollen or spores that turn a creature's type to Plant for 24 hours and gives them vulnerability to all damage while a plant; all other abilities are unaffected. Beasts and monstrosities will not willingly enter this area.
Walking Tree. Initially rooted where the die lands, but pursues creatures within 50 feet of it. Has 3d10 HP, AC 12, +4 to hit for 1d8 bludgeoning, Speed 10, and cannot dash.

Exmoor ponies are used for conservation grazing in the Noordhollands Duinreservaat, nearby Egmond-Binnen, the Netherlands.
The horse breed is very suited for this, due to their diverse diet, their large teeth and their winter hardiness.
