ehhhh i mean garte doesnt any supernatural protection from drowning out of it no. but he's a former captain turned lighthouse keeper who practically spent his whole life in or around water so i think garte has a enough of a healthy respect and fear of the ocean to know better than to go near/in the water if there's any risk to it

their friendship is one that kinda started with moonshine being really really annoying to try to get garte to quit his job because if the lighthouse is abandoned that means more shipwrecks which means more fun and power for moonshine. but garte has the patience of a fucking SAINT and just likes being a lighthouse keeper too much to give it up just because some random asshole thinks its funny if people die at sea. their friendship consists mostly of yelling insults at each other from a distance
