This is just a bundle of the guy's sleeping habits in the Ninjago band au, dunno why I felt like this would be something to type out, but it's been a while since I've posted anything band AU related, sooo here's something! 8D (Sorry it's kinda long!)
In the AU, Jay has been known to fall asleep at random places. Several times during interviews, he’s fallen asleep half way through them and has to be shaken awake by someone to continue on. One time, Jay even falls asleep on stage when the band goes for a little intermission. He just sets down his guitar, goes behind the drum set, and passes out in front of everyone. The guys keep a list of places where Jays fallen asleep (that time at the beach, that one arcade where he fell asleep on the air hockey table, that time Jay slept through a storm where hail was pounding on their tour bus that actually ended breaking a window, that time where he fell asleep at a signing and the others put marker on his face (Poor Jay didn’t notice it until he and the others were posing for pictures, but by then it was too late. (He later got revenge at the others and drew all over their faces.)))
Point is, this guy can fall asleep anywhere in a matter of seconds, which the guys have to look out for because once Jay did that on a train (this was before the band even got big) and the guys got off of it without Jay. By the time they were half way to where they needed to go, Cole paused and said, “Hey guys...? It’s way too quiet...” And they all realize that Jay’s not there and at that moment, they get a phone call from Jay, who’s really confused. “I don’t know where I am, there are people here but I don’t know what they’re saying, I don’t even think that I’m in the city anymore- GUYS THERE’S A CACTUS- I’M NOT IN NINJAGO CITY ANYMORE!” “DAMMIT JAY!” “HELP ME.”
But Jay sleeping in random places turns out to be a fun little thing for the guys. They test out where he can fall asleep and where he can’t. Like most people, he won’t fall asleep in water, but yet he falls asleep while sky diving? Sometimes they think that Jay needs to see someone but Jay reassures them that it’s just been a normal thing for him. Anyways, yeah, Jay can go to sleep anywhere.
Poor Cole though, that boy RARELY gets sleep. I feel so bad for the guy, like NEVER. Cole will run himself ragged with working on stuff for the guys, plus he just can’t really sleep that well in general. Sometimes Zane will shove a bottle of sleeping drink aid/sleeping pills/sleep time tea or anything along those lines, throw a blanket around his shoulders, and lead him to the couch or somewhere. (”Zane, I’m fine-” “No you’re not. As I quote an interviewer, ‘Cole looks like a walking corpse.’” “That interviewer was drunk. I have a lot of sleep. I sleep all the time.” “You need sleep. Go to sleep.” “I mean, I can try, but I don’t think I’ll succeed.” “At least try.”)
But when Cole goes to sleep, he’s either in super light sleep were any little noise will wale him up (and being in a band, there's always noise) or he’s OUT. The longest time Cole’s slept for was maybe four days without waking up. Jay and Kai were about ready to call his dad to let him know that Cole was possibly dead before Cole stirred awake. (”Man, that was a good nap...” “NAP?! YOU CALL THAT A NAP?! THAT WAS BASICALLY YOU IN A COMA!”)
With Cole being such a heavy sleeper at times, Jay and Kai a lot of times attempt to pull pranks on him, but Zane always appears last minute to freak them out and stop them before anything happens. He'll just literally appear out of thin air before anything's about to happen and ask "Are you sure that is the wisest thing to do?" Or something along those lines. (Kai and Jay have a ton of video recordings of them attempting to pull pranks on Cole only to have Zane stop them. They made a montage of the footage and it got a ton of views. Now their goal in life is to actually succeed in pulling a prank.)
Cole’s sleeping habits aren’t the best, but there are some days where he can just lie down and just dream away. Those days for him are the best. Other days... Not fun. (He’s super glad that they have a great make-up department to make him look decent, but then with him being a drummer in the back, he doesn’t need a lot since the focus isn’t usually on him. Jay and Kai are the ones who need it all the most. Zane, not too much.)
Now then, as for Kai, he's not like Jay, being able to sleep anywhere at any time, but he's not like Cole, being unable to sleep most of the time. Kai, since before, he used to do night jobs working at places to earn money, he's really used to being up late and having to be up early, so he's still really used to that schedule. There are some nights where he only gets four hours of sleep, but whenever he wakes up, he just kinda shrugs and gets up without complaining or saying anything about it. ("I'll just take a nap on the couch later or something. Maybe I'll pass out behind the drums. Who knows.")
Some nights when he can't sleep that well, I just LOVE the idea of Kai just taking his acoustic guitar and stepping outside of their parked tour bus and just sitting against it/on the roof/on the side of a small hill and just strumming and singing quietly to himself. He just lets his hands play whatever and he'll make up random lyrics on the spot. (He's actually fallen asleep once or twice on top of the bus somehow, and the guys always discover that he's there whenever they start driving and hear pounding on the roof and the sounds of him screaming. "I swear Kai, that's something Jay would do." "HEY!")
A lot of times though, he'll just sit around and chat with Cole since the other doesn't really sleep, so Kai finds it awkward sometimes with Cole just sitting there. They actually learn a lot about each other with the little late night talks they have, and Kai actually enjoys them. He just wishes that Cole didn't look like walking corpse at three in the morning... However, three am Cole is quite amusing. Three am Cole is funny, four am Cole is he closest thing Cole will ever be to being drunk, and five am Cole is angsty Cole. Kai honestly doesn't know what's up with the guy, but he tries not to ask questions, especially to five am Cole.
Now, Zane... The guys honestly have never seen Zane sleep. Like, they know that he does at some point during the day, but they never see him sleep. Whenever they check his bed, he's never there, and when he is, he's either reading a book or making slight edits to some songs that are in the works.
At some point, the guys (mainly Jay and Kai because there was NO way that Cole was getting involved) decide to trail Zane the entire day to see if he goes somewhere else to sleep or if he'll fall asleep on the couch a room away from where they practice. It took a while for Zane to catch on, but when he went to the bathroom and opened the door to see Jay standing there, he sort of caught on. ("Oh, I'm sorry, I hope I didn't take too long in there." "Pfft, that's alright dude. I was just making sure that you... Uhh, didn’t slip in! We wouldn't want that problem on our hands, haha! Right?!" "..." "..." "... Right, I see... Okay, I'll see you in a half hour for practice." "Yeah! See you then!" "..." "..." "... Are you... Following me?" "Me? PFT, NO! W-why would I do that? Who do you think I am, Zane?" "I think that you're Jay, but I also think that you are following me." "... Okay yeah I am." "Please don't.")
Zane's sleeping habits are alright. He's one of those people who could sleep for a little bit but wake up with the energy of a thousand suns. However, Zane does enjoy those days where he can sleep in for a few hours and be happy knowing that there's no way that he can get pranked by the others because he goes to a secret place to sleep at.
The secret place? I'm not too sure. I feel like he'd go back to his own place to sleep at or maybe if they're on the road and the tour bus is parked, then I feel like he'd take out a blanket into the forest and find a nice place to settle down, read a few pages of a good book, and then take a nap in a hammock that he'll set up at a later time. I feel like Zane would try to sleep anywhere but the tour bus. (Or anywhere where Jay is.)
