Now that it’s the next day, I really, really wanted to make a post on my second time watching the Ninjago Movie (as the first one was a trainwreck..) but this one… This viewing, I’ve never had an experience like this at the theaters before. This post mostly consists of the experience I had there, this isn’t a review (that’ll be out when it comes out for others everywhere) but this has no spoilers! Just my experience of watching it again, and let me just say, it was even better the second time!!
As you probably saw a few of my posts on my blog from last night, I went to the movie with a best friend, who’s a giant big nerd like me. We’re both ninja nerds. Ninj-nerds. Anyways, we’re both now adults and were perhaps the only teenagers there who went freely on their own will. The entire time before the movie, we were making puns and having a good time. He even made me feel comfortable being being Lego trash, as I had worn my Kai hoodie, bought a few minifigures with me, and then also had my Lego wallet out so I could pay for my stuff. (“We take PRIDE IN OUR LEGO ACCESSORIES!”)
Watching through the movie with him was a whole lot of fun! Even though I had watched the movie the day before, it was like I was watching it for the first time with him. We were both laughing really hard and making small comments (mostly about the animation and how gorgeous it was, and making more jokes and puns and comments on the characters. I can’t remember how many times we said “That’s so ninja” to one another).
Watching it this time with the crowded theater was A WHOLE LOT OF FUN! It made for better reactions to things (one woman DIED LAUGHING AT MEOWTHRA SHE WAS LAUGHING REALLY HARD). When I saw it the first time, it was before school ended so there weren’t any kids, but this time I saw it, the little kids were great and honestly really respectful and having a blast during the film. One little kid kept saying “fuego!” after Kai said it and I found it to be utterly adorable. It was a really great audience honestly and they were all really fun!
There were three points in the movie where I got really emotional and teary and just- Even for the second viewing, it still got me emotional. At one point my friend elbowed me and said “I’m going to tell my family you cried in a Lego movie” BUT JUST LISTEN IT WAS REALLY EMOTIONAL FOR ME I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
Now when it got to the end of the movie, the end credit song started playing which prompts you to get up and dance.
Now, this is my favorite part of the night.
People started to filter out, and my friend and I started to leave, but then my friend stopped suddenly set down his things before he started dancing to the song. I told him to stop before I realized that “hey no one knows me” and “I’ve waited 6 years for this, I’m gonna DANCE!” So I set down my drink and popcorn and started dancing with my friend in the middle of the theater. We were both laughing and having a great time. Down near the screen, there were kids also dancing and parents doing the same with them.
I heard a little kid say “Mom! There’s a real dance party happening!” And I looked to see her pointing to my friend and I. The mother waved to my friend and I and we happily waved back. A few little kids even ran over towards us to dance and jump, which I also found to be super adorable. I laughed and my friend continued dancing. Now, I can’t dance at all, so my dancing consisted of mostly jumping and singing loudly and trying to incorporate some decent moves in while my friend, who’s been dancing for his entire life, danced incredibly well before toning it down so I wouldn’t look too bad.
I still looked horrible but I didn’t care. I DANCED in a movie theater to the end credit song of the Ninjago Movie. It was so much fun??? I’ve never had a moment like that- I honestly felt so happy and it was such a blast seeing it with my friend. It was WAY better to watch it with someone who also loves Ninjago and who was actually excited to see the movie.
We both eventually left when the first end credit song ended and waved goodbye to the kids and the parents and left the theater in high spirits. We both were super happy and laughing still and talking about the movie. Once in the car, I connected my phone to the car and my friend looked to me. I smiled widely at him just as the first few seconds of the Weekend Whip started to play and he let out a SCREAM.
The entire car ride consisted of playing Ninjago songs really loudly and singing them with the windows down. People in nearby cars stared at us - as we’re both 18 year olds singing “JUMP UP KICK BACK WHIP AROUND AND SPIIIN!!! AND THEN WE’LL JUMP BACK DO IT AGAIN! NINJA- GO!!!!” at the top of our lungs - but it didn’t matter.
We were both honestly really happy. I’ve never felt more happier leaving the movies.
After that we both proceeded to go to McDonalds, get happy meals, and sit in the fancy cushioned chairs there to eat our food. (We both got the dragon telescope toy. He gave me the code since I preordered the game so woo for codes!)
That basically concluded our night as it was already getting pretty late and we both needed to get home. Basically… That was the most fun I’ve ever had at the theater. I left there feeling genuinely happy. I’ve never had a movie experience like that where I laughed so much, got so deeply emotional at parts, and then proceeded to dance in the dark of the theater with my best friend. It was honestly a really, really fun night.
That might have been one of the best days of my life, I’ve never had more fun before in my entire life, and it’s all because of some Ninja Nerds. Ninjago’s had a super special place in my heart and honestly, it always will. This movie has some problems to it, but honestly, it made me happy to the point where my face was hurting from smiling so hard and my stomach was hurting from laughing so much. It made me happy, and for that, it’s golden and special to me and will have a special place in my heart.
