Hey there. I love this blog. Would you by any chance know of any stimmy toys related to German Shepherd dogs, or Fallout 4 (or Fallout games in general?) or Captain America. Right now those are my big special interests but I’m struggling to find anything besides my homemade weighted plushie

Unfortunately, I am the worst person to ask for anything game related–in fact, for a great many things fandom related, but digital games are my worst area of complete ignorance. I just don’t have enough knowledge to know what toys best relate to them. I’m thinking that some of the fandom-themed or regression shop blogs might be able to give you better help in this area, because their mods are usually much more up on toys and how they relate to fandom.

If you have an extremely-specific interest, it might be worthwhile doing an Etsy search with “[name of special interest or fandom property] fidget” or even just the name of the property. For example, I searched “Fallout 4” and scrolled through a variety of different poster and prop listings, and found a few things this way that look potentially stimmy to me. Because Etsy has a lot of handmade items, it’s a good way of finding if anything exists, although non-US folks should be aware that Etsy often has higher shipping costs and sellers that don’t ship worldwide.

Captain America

We’ve covered Captain America before, so I’ll first mention posts that have Cap-themed fidget items. If you’re after things like fidget cubes, chewables and spinners, Captain America will be your best bet for combining special interest and stim.

Zuru Marvel Fidget Cubes (post links: one, two). I’ve found these in Toys R Us and Zing Pop Culture stores here in Australia. (Note: both stores have affiliations with Autism $peaks.) I’ve also found a direct listing on Amazon, which may be the easiest way to purchase.

Knock-Off Marvel Metal Spinners (post link: one). This listing is on Banggood, but you can also find these on eBay or Wish.

ARK Therapeutic Super Star Chew Pendant (review by @pink-rainbow-sparkles​). If you do a Google search for “ARK Therapeutic Super Star Pendant” you should get a list of any retailers local to you. This is available in a range of colours and three different chew strengths, so it should be suitable for most chewers.

There is also a wide, wide range of Captain America spinners, including shield-shaped spinners, tri-spinners with the logo on the cap, metal spinners and triangular spinners. Here’s a link to an eBay search, with most of these spinners under $10 USD. Likewise, Etsy also has a good selection.

(Do know that most of these aren’t licensed items, if that is of concern to you.)

Video Tutorial - Spinning Plusheen Toy, Maqaroon

This is a tutorial using a fidget spinner as a base to support a figurine made from paper clay, turning the figurine into a spinning desk toy. It does require basic moulding and painting ability.

(I am wondering, honestly, if it is possible to do something similar by hot-gluing a sock plush to a spinner cap, as that would give you a spinning toy with the added extra tactile stim of the plushie!)

Real sprinkles are used to decorate the doughnut, which I wouldn’t care to use here in Australia due to ants. (We’ve had ants invade the house over much less than coloured sprinkles on a desk toy.) I’d paint sprinkles or make them out of polymer clay.

Components:

Fidget spinner

Paper clay and paint to colour the paper clay

Paint brushes and toothpicks

Gloves for blending clay and paint

A workspace, table or desk where one can mould and roll the clay

Plastic wrap for storing clay while it isn’t in use

I’ll note that the presenter talks about fidget spinners as though they’re a past fashion in which nobody is no longer interested and not a stim toy/tool ND folks are still using.

Metallic Spinners - Kidstuff, $0.50 AUD each.

There is no online listing, so I’ll direct folks to the store finder. Stores are only located in SA, Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

My local store was having a “% off every item in store” sale, with 50% off these spinners (usually priced at $1 AUD each). I have no idea how long this sale lasts, so I’d check your local store soonish. This is a super amazing price for metallic spinners, even the plastic tri-shaped ones.

Unfortunately, they’re not the best spinners, so if you buy these, I’d buy a few in the hope of getting one good one. I bought the lot thinking to put these aside for gifts, but it hasn’t worked out that way. The pink one is super quiet, and the blue and gold are average cheap spinners--they spin well enough, but they wobble while spinning, which I find offputting. (It disrupts the steadiness of the vibration, since I use a spinner mostly for the feel and sound.) The green one spins well without too much wobble, but I’ve already lost one of the black caps over the bearings in the arms. (It came off and I have absolutely no idea where it got to.) And the silver is so loud and rattly (it’s a kind of grating noise) it is unusable, and I mean to pull it apart for spare parts because I don’t dislike any of my stimming friends enough to curse them with it!

A few of the caps have small places on the rims where the metallic finish didn’t fully cover the cap, but there’s no major scratches or mars in the coating.

These look prettier than they are useful, but the price is decent enough that it’s not so bad to buy a few in the hope of getting one decent one.

For folks who love spinners and don’t mind being a little obvious about having a spinner on one’s person, there’s now a variety of different spinner necklaces available on eBay, Wish, Banggood, etc.

I don’t know how well the cord will interfere with the spinner spinning, but it would still be quite stimmy to spin the cap while wearing the necklace. I love the colourful tree design!
