Headcanon:

When Mickey was small he believed that monsters are huge, blue and cold. Small Mickey never checked under his bed, but always made his parents and sister look in closet and dresser.

Later his image of monster changed to bullies and coldness.

Current Mickey would never admit it, but he is calling himself monster sometimes.
