Orders from the Gerudo had always been rare - they came only perhaps twice a year, and her father had always been the one to handle them. These days, since the tyrant king had fallen, they had become even more scarce. Her father reckoned that it was humiliation - that after their own leader had dragged the world into such a dark time, they were hiding to save face. The newly reinstated princess had said nothing on the matter, so Malon figured nobody really knew.
It had been almost a full year since the last delivery when the new order came in. A request for six jugs of milk, delivered directly to the fortress. She'd expected her father to take up the order himself, at first -- but Talon was getting older, and the journey was simply too long for him to take. Malon had been a little hesitant to take on the trip herself - what if her father hurt himself while she was away? What if he didn't work without her to scold him when he slacked off? Would he eat if someone wasn't cooking for him?
But she was really the only one who could do the delivery now, so despite her worry over her lazy father's well-being, she hitched the wagon up to her horse and set out.
Of course, her father had also failed to warn her of the rough terrain leading up to the fortress, and she had to learn the hard way. One spooked horse and a broken wheel later, the redhead found herself very stranded in the middle of a very unpleasant heat wave with a bunch of temperature-sensitive cargo.
She settled both the milk and her now-cranky horse beneath the only shade available, and she herself plunked down beside the broken wagon. Would it be worth it to continue on without the milk? If they acknowledged her, they might have something to carry the milk back with them. But she had no idea how long it would take to get there, and if the milk stayed out in the heat for too long, it'd go bad - and then she'd have to replace it anyway.
The back of her head thunked against the wood. What would her dad do in this situation? Sleep, probably. She sighed miserably. Maybe if she just waited here long enough, she'd get lucky and someone would rescue her. Or she'd just bake into a roast. Both sounded like better ideas than strapping six full jugs of milk to her back, at least. Forcing herself into a standing position, she set to work trying to fix up a temporary wheel for the wagon. With any luck, she'd be able to transport the milk as far as the fortress.
