“I know you constantly want to put only 100 forward but sometimes 99.99 is already good enough and plenty more.”
"nerds are hot though. You're a hot nerd"
......Sometimes I wonder how simple minded you are.
*Jongin voice* ad requirements: no winking, no lip-biting, no sultry stare, turtle necks are great too, don't forget. Add a picture of your engagement ring too. For aesthetic purposes of course.
So in other words, be the nerd I’ve always been, that’s quite easy.... But I will proudly shove the ring into everyone’s eyeball just for you
Cor Meum Ad Te Pertinent
The whole thing has taken him quite a while, he must say. Weeks of planning things, making sure he managed to get everything he needed and that nothing was off. Kim Jongin is a perfectionist and he will be until the day he dies, so it’s no wonder that he took so long on planning something that is far from simple, but that he could have done so much sooner. Nonetheless, he thinks the timing is perfect; they never liked to rush things ever since they met. It took Jongin months to be able to formally ask Youngjae if he wanted to date him officially and he has been counting - sometimes mentally - the days and months that they’ve been together ever since. It’s been almost a year and a half; part of that time, spent living under the same roof because they were oddly fast to agree on Jongin moving over to Youngjaes’. The house was bigger anyway and yet, it’s still small, but a small that Jongin loves because it’s cozy and because they can’t go too far without bumping into each other. He plans on doing it in the morning, even if he needs to wake up early and do his best not to wake up the little angel sleeping beside him. It’s hard to get out of bed, lift the arm that is placed over his waist and untangle himself from his boyfriend but he manages. Next thing he does is run to the bathroom, take a quick shower and get dressed. He pondered all week about getting that bow tie and that formal jacket and making it all way too cheesy, but he thinks it’s too much and not like himself at all. So he goes with what screams like him: a white dress shirt with two buttons undone, carefully tucked into black (suit-like) pants and black shoes (polished; no socks, of course). He leaves a sticky note in the form of a sunflower on the bathroom’s mirror then “Good morning, angel. Get dressed and meet me in the living room, I have a surprise for you.” Jongin is out in a flash after pecking Youngjae on the forehead as gently as he could so that the boy doesn’t wake up immediately. And then he moves to the kitchen where their puppies are, makes sure to pet them and leave them with plenty of food and water before he grabs his wallet, a little shopping bag and his keys. Another post-it is left on the front door this time “Meet me at the studio in an hour (it’s 9:30 right now). See that taxi in front of the house? It’s for you, take it and come here. There is a present on the back seat too, it’s yours.” He finishes writing and leaves the sticky note there, going out right after. If everything goes according to plan, the moment Youngjae enters the taxi, he’ll see the huge sunflower bouquet he got for him. It doesn’t take him too long to get to to the studio and once he is there, he makes sure to close the door and keep the “closed” sign on it so there isn’t any interruptions. He goes up the stairs and into the dance room where he makes sure to prepare everything before the other arrives. He sits down for a moment, pulls on the tip of the glove that has been hiding his hand and then on the tip of the white bandage, making sure to remove it and set it aside. Then, he takes the glove again, putting it on once more. He moves to the other side right after so he can turn on the music and place one hand inside his pocket to take out his phone. The number is on dial-speed and he thinks he can safely say it’s the only one he also knows by heart. He waits then, for the other to wake up and pick up the phone and when he does so, Jongin has to suppress a chuckle at the sleepy voice that greets him on the other side of the line. "Hey baby, good morning. I just thought I’d wake you up because I need something. Go to the bathroom, I left something there, okay? I’ll see you in a bit. I love you." And then he hangs up. Now the only thing he needs to do is wait.
The night before had been a long night for both of them. Busy with school and work, they had found themselves to be exhausted and for once, they both had decided to fall asleep right after a quick dinner. Youngjae didn’t mind those kinds of nights. Sure he would have appreciated it if he and Jongin both had more energy to be able to sit down and talk to each other about their day or about anything at all honestly. But he was content as long as at the end of the night, the older was lying right by his side. Tomorrow was his day off though, working out nicely enough. Youngjae planned to sleep in and then wake up by the side of the person he loved and maybe spend the day just eating and relaxing by himself. And the idea was almost attained except something had ruined it completely. Not only did the sunlight pierce trough the thin skin of his closed eyes but the loud ringtone of his own cellphone had disturbed him away. He doesn’t open his eyes and he speaks quietly in fear of the older still being asleep.
“H-Hello?” The voice on the other end wasn’t the voice he had expected. His eyes immediately fall open; the older nowhere in sight. “What are you doing out of bed…and calling me?” The answer he gets doesn’t answer his own question and only sprouts more things that need answers in his head. But without an explanation, the other hangs up and Youngjae is left dumbfounded. Both groggy, confused and not in the mood for games, he pushes himself out of bed and walks into the bathroom, looking for whatever Kai had forgotten. His toothbrush? His cologne? He doesn’t look for a moment longer as he sees the note on the mirror. “What…?” He shakes his head, a smile replacing the tightly pursed lips on his features as he walks out of the bathroom and towards the closet. It only takes him a moment to pull on a a white v-neck shirt along with dark wash blue jeans.
“Jongin what are you doing do-“ His question is cut short when he doesn’t see the older in the living room. But instead he’s met with another note, reading it silently to himself. What in the world was Jongin doing. He blinks a few times, peeking out the window before biting his lower lip when he catches sight of the taxi. He slips his shoes on and locks the door behind him as he makes his way out. Almost immediately when he gets in, he’s looking for the mysterious present and it’s a bouquet of sunflowers. Was today an anniversary he had missed? Was today Jongin or his’ half birthdays? Youngjae takes the bouquet onto his lap, fingers grazing the soft petals. He was confused, but he was also excited.
Happy Birthday, Angel
He prepares everything in a haste and maybe he lies to Youngjae for the first time ever since they are together when he tells him they are out of soy sauce. ‘But..’ he hears at first, but he shrugs his shoulders even before the younger has the chance to tell him how sure he is that he bought a bottle just two days ago. Hopefully, he won’t search for it under the couch - he doesn’t - and Jongin is more than happy that Seoltang stopped sniffing around said furniture when he bribed him with a snack (even dogs are out to blow his cover , he thinks). He is not proud to let Youngjae go out in the cold just to get a new bottle and maybe that’s the reason why he makes sure he has his coat and he zips it up like a mom would do to her son. And then he kisses him (now it’s not so motherly anymore) before he is out and Kai breaks into a mess of running around with two puppy dogs right behind him because to them, it’s play time.
He searches for the bag he kept hidden behind their closet - under the bed was just too mainstream - and he takes it out, opens it and takes the bouquet of yellow, pink and blue flowers, inspecting it to see if it’s still pretty; and still alive. It is and he sighs in relief.
Maybe he regrets not having time to wrap all of the presents in a nice paper, but he had barely any days off and sleep took advantage of him most of the nights. So the time he took to look around for presents and pick them carefully left him with nothing left to make sure they were wrapped. He takes a peek inside the pretty blue bag with little sparks on and adjusts the black scarf he found in one of the younger’s favourite shops along with the two beanies. Next, he grabs the small block of fun coupons - little scratch ons that he found somewhere in the internet, thought they were perfect and just bought them. He still thinks that one hundred scratch-and-win lottery tickets are a little too much, but who cares anyway.
He hops out of the bedroom with the bag and his flowers into the living room, making sure to quiet down both of the puppies but not before putting a little flower on each of the puppies’ collars and make sure they sit down beside him - one on each side because he taught them what “wait” means. They do wait even if they whine for a second before Jongin hears the door open again which is when the “wait” is said again and Haru sits once more while Seoltang is already trying to get rid of his flower. And Jongin holds on to his bouquet, putting on his puppy eyes and his best smile so he can welcome the younger home.
He doesn’t have a written birthday card, but he’s pretty sure he knows exactly all he wants to say if Youngjae needs both actions AND words.
His brows stay furrowed when he finds himself outside of the house, the door locking as Jongin shuts him out to buy, of all things, soy sauce. If Youngjae's memory isn't failing him, then he's pretty sure he went grocery shopping a few days ago. The fridge was full and it's not usually like that unless he just went shopping, which clearly he did. But yet on his birthday morning, of all mornings to choose, Jongin had sent him on a quest for soy sauce. While walking to the store and avoiding gray puddles of slush, he's still confused over the suddenly missing seasoning but in the end, he only shrugs and walks in.
It doesn't take him long to locate and buy the sauce before he's walking home again, making a mental note to watch the usage because he does not want to go back to the store every 3 days to buy a new bottle. Reaching into his pocket and ignoring the way his fingertips feel numb from the cold, he grabs his house keys and unlocks the front door. Out of habit, he closes the door behind him and slips off his shoes before picking his head up.
It's not what he expected really. In the living room, the puppies were squirming as Jongin tried to keep them still, a large smile on his lips as he held onto a bright bouquet. He felt kind of dumb really when the tears started to prick at the corner of his eyes. The soy sauce was immediately forgotten as he placed it on the floor before running over, kneeling in front of them as he leans over to press a long kiss against Jongin's cheek before shifting to the table.
He picks up the simple bag, a grin on his features as he immediately peeks in and reaches in. The first thing he tugs out is the set of beanies and almost immediately, he slips the black one on and sets the light orange one on his lap before reaching into the bag again. Youngjae pulls out the other present and is pleased to find a black circle scarf. It was getting cold lately and he didn't own many scarfs, let alone such soft ones. He slips the scarf around his neck before taking out the hardest gift in a bag. At first touch, he thought maybe the older got him a stack of post its but after looking at it, it was a stack of playful and romantic scratch cards. Looking at it, there had be to more than fifty. But his main present to himself wasn't in this bag.
Youngjae lets out a soft chuckle followed by a wide grin before crawling over and throwing his arms over the older, "Thank you, thank you, thank you."
