Hope it’s not too late for the boss fight thingy but what about kai, joel and laighe 👀

Joel would be wild because at first you'll be fighting its human form, and you will not be doing any damage. You'll have to spend a few minutes like that, and it's not going to be fun. Joel's human body will be coming at you with daggers and its smokescale will be pouring blinding smoke on you as it poofs around. Its physical body can take as many hits as needed without slowing, because that isn't Joel's main body. However, every 2 minutes you'll get a shot as the CC bar. If you can stun it, the body will fall to the ground and you'll get a brief window where its actual form, the smokescale, will still for long enough that you can get some hits in. This is where you'll start seeing actual damage taken! You have to simply survive and whittle Joel's health down until it's nothing. At 1% health though it will poof away, leaving its body there to retrieve later after you've left. It will take another shot at you another day.

Kai is a team fight, you will want a group going into this one! Because she and Caithe would have joint mechanics. The two are inseparable and would never let the other go into a deadly fight alone. You'd be dealing with two thieves, a standard one juiced up as aurene's Champion, and a daredevil. The hits will be hard and nonstop, but they're both close range so if you can somehow get some distance you'll have your best shot at survival. You'll have to dodge imobilizing attacks, and sometimes aurene will ignite portions of the floor to ensure you stay closer to your opponents. Stunning either of them by breaking their CC bar gives you a break from damage and a chance to get up close and hit them both, when one is stunned the other immediately rushes to their side to make sure they're okay. And you'll want to ensure you've got equal damage on them both, once one is killed you've got a short timer before the other will revive them!

How’s Titania’s personality and did it evolved as time went by?

titania starts out super naïve and gullible, and with a very black and white view of “good guys and bad guys”, and got several reality checks in the early personal story (Gavin). 

As time’s gone on she’s gotten a lot more self destructive and cynical but never to the point she’s unkind to people. She’s still the same goofball as always but just a little more sour than she started.

I wonder if a human commander experienced reject/distrust from other humans when they killed Balthazar, like in elona it’s clear everyone was set against him but in central Tyria there’s a lot of dialogue of people having their faith « « increased » » by the fact he was there, or being certain he was doing the right thing

There’s probably so many who have beef with the Commander over that - I know we see the Elonia side of that in Zafirah, whom I adore and need more of, but you’re right - we don’t really get to see the Post Balth aftermath in humans.

Because humans can be really dumb, and there’s bound to be people who fully believe that the Commander should not have stopped Balthazar; possibly believing that the God knew better, and that now anytime a problem pops up - they blame the Commander for killing the God of Fire and War. Heck there’s probably humans who blame the Commander for causing the Charr Civil war BECAUSE they killed the God of War! in some sort of religious zealot way...

Perhaps even there’s people who are on the flip side - who have started worshipping the Commander as the God of War and Fire - especially if they’re a fire based class and a balthazar worshipping human - they see the Commander as renewing the Gods power by removing an Old God and becoming a New God. But imagine the chaos if they’re not human - are the Gods sending a message about the other races? is it good? bad? Do they need to kill the other Gods to ensure their ‘new’ forms are all human? Do they wage war on the Gods to remove them and replace them with a variety of races to strengthen humans and spread the religion of the Gods to the to other races?

It must be madness for the Balthazar Priesthood outside of Elona - heck do the other Human nations even worship the same Gods? DO they know Balthazar is dead??? DO WE TELL THE CANTHANS?? What do we do when someone tells the Canthans and suddenly we’re enemy number one?

21. Mallyck. Other Trees. Mordremoth’s blighting trees… Are the Sylvari not unique?

That’s a tricky question! Are they unique in being plant-based life that grew from a magical tree born from a seed Mordremoth created and sent out? No not in the slightest! We know canonically there’s at least one other grown tree which is Malyck’s, and the pale tree’s seed was “found in a cave containing many others like it” (straight from the wiki). There are any number of trees that have or will grow to produce their own variety of planty beings of various shapes and dispositions and community styles! One of my favorite things about the sylvari is the potential this exact aspect can lead to, and I’ve actually got my own fully fleshed out tree I’ve got set up in several of my canon universes within Tyria. And I’m sure plenty of other people do as well!

Now, are sylvari unique in how they specifically have developed? Absolutely!!! The pale tree was so specifically cultivated, planted by a warrior on a mass grave, tended to as a sprout by him and his gay centaur husband who in turn wrote a lovely set of morals for the tree to abide by and to grow her children around. The sylvari form was even designed specifically after the human warrior who helped raise the Pale Tree, meaning even the humanoid shape is not a guarantee among the seeds found in that cave. There exists endless potential to be shaped by whatever environment each tree can grow in, and no two trees, no matter how similar, will ever match perfectly. The sylvari themselves are a unique creation.

22. Humans are canonically aliens. What weird differences are there between humans and native Tyrian beings.

25. Horses

An extinct (or nearly extinct) species from Tyria’s not too distant past! Think along the lines of the thylacine, many people know it existed and have seen pictures of it, but we have no clue what they sounded like and of their natural behavior. We knew they existed, and one could get the form and basic movements right if describing or recreating them in art, but past that they’re an enigma. Similarly, there’s rumors of horse sightings occasionally. People hoping they’ve found a remnant herd that survived and was simply so sparse it escaped detection for decades!

This is why we can still see art or hear of horses throughout Tyria, they existed and are well known, and once upon a time some races would use them as mounts or found them handy for pulling carts, but now have found alternatives to replace the long lost species.

Requiem

“That’s a legendary tablet by an Orrian soldier! It was...”

Taimi’s words faded into the background, her enthusiasm over the discovery confirming to the team what Laighe already knew. She’d seen this poem so many times, scrawled on a page of Trahearne’s notebook as the two would sit together. He spent hours musing over the missing line when given the time for it as she’d throw possibilities to him. More lighthearted fun than any serious research for the two of them when there wasn’t actual work to be done.

And here it was, the whole poem. In the middle of a desert nowhere near its origin within Orr. It almost felt like a cruel joke to find it now when years had passed since she’d last seen his handwriting but she...couldn’t find it in her to feel upset as the read the lines she knew. There wasn’t enough room to be upset. Just a deep seated sadness and longing as she ran a hand carefully over the memory of a tablet that Trahearne loved so much, displaced in time and whole once again.

“-poem say? ...hello? Taimi to Laighe!” The shout from her com brought her mind back to the surface with the group, startled out of her memories.

“Yess Taimi, what was that?”

An exasperated groan preceded the words this time indicating how long the ashes had likely been trying to talk with her. “What does the last line of the poem say? The one he was missing?”

“...and I will chase it back to you.”

Savage

The days were a blur under the thick jungle canopy, sun entirely obscured by the trees around them all. Not that cycles mattered with the ticking clock of Mordremoth and the safety of the Pact looming over everyone as they continued to fight through the swarms of enemies, both mordrem and jungle creatures.

And jungle creatures were precisely the concern as Laighe and her team stumbled accidentally upon a wyvern nest. The fight began in a flurry of wings and fire, the only blessing being no matriarch was within sight at the moment. These fights were less of a danger and more of a nuisance, younglings with no strategy or skill as opposed to the dragon minions looming in every shadow.

The team made quick work of the nest and Laighe had heard enough talk from the others about needing rest that she irritably relented; a food break in a clearing that no creatures would willingly enter, them the journey would continue. Just a short food break, reinforced with a hard glance as she sat down to wait, hand still on her sword just in case anything lurking about felt lucky.

A small tug on her coat and the sword was unsheathed, buried in the ground where she’d expect the head of a creature the average size she’d seen in her travels. Just the ground. As her coat was pulled on once again. Looking further down with a frown, she found something...not small, but smaller than expected. It turned out the nest wasn’t as cleared out as everyone thought.

The hatchling pulled on her coat a third time as the edges singed where it bit down. Too young to understand danger yet and nowhere near the fearsome threat the team had just faced. “...now, what do I do with you?”

6.Have they ever committed a crime, or something they felt was wrong? What was it?

Laighe has absolutely done things she felt were wrong, though she hasn’t committed any major crimes. If she is going to fuck something up it tends to be herself not anything else. As for things she felt were wrong, killing people she once fought alongside who have fallen to a dragon is way up there on the list!

Kai has committed so many crimes jfc...and the largest and least forgivable of those lines up entirely with something she once believed was her noblest action though it’s now one of her greatest mistakes. The crime she committed that put a “dead or alive” bounty on her head for years and marked her as a dangerous individual; she slaughtered her warband. She’d been so heavily trained and conditioned to disregard the lives of defectors and betrayers, and her team had been comprised of the best of the best. And when one of those “best” turned out to be a flame legion traitor, well...best to ensure a full culling and avoid another betrayal. Start fresh with a new warband of better, more loyal soldiers. Funny how overconditioning a charr into a role chosen for her as a cub can lead to some hellish mistakes for everyone involved.

7. If your character was allowed to murder one person without any consequences, who would it be and why?

Laighe would have taken Rytlock out the moment he started criticizing sylvari as dragon minions in HoT if she wasn’t extremely fucking busy with managing that fact herself and trying to save her entire fucking race. She nearly killed him a second time for neglecting to give anyone the information that could have protected them all from Balthazar’s big reveal. If she could commit one legal murder it would be him, and the only reason she hasn’t is he’s been permanently benched in her route so poses no threat or nuisance now.

I’d put Rytlock down for Kai too but she actually did kill him around PoF for various reasons Kai would like to kill that fucking skeevy romance author. He’s absolutely been removed from Eye of the North because if he says one more weird creepy fucking thing to or about anyone in the room she is going to claw his face off. Faren is a close second as it is too.

28. What is your character’s greatest strength?

Laighe’s strength, as cheesy as it may sound, is from those she considers family. If she didn’t still have Wrelia ( @ascalonianpicnic ), Tvelle, Ruzzier, and Odollumn through this all she would have fallen years ago. She may be running herself into the ground, but the small threat she’s hanging by is thanks to them. She just needs to learn to not hang herself with it...

Kai’s strength is her steadfast resolve, and caution to think everything through before acting. She’s learned a lot from her life in terms of not acting too rashly and not going for a kill first basis. But she’s also come to terms with knowing that her past is what made her who she is, and she doesn’t have the ability to go back and change any of it. She makes her moves knowing how permanent everything will be, and how greatly it can affect every move after.

Get To Know My Characters

I’m guessing this was meant to be Kai? If it’s meant to be someone else please let me know but I’ll answer for Kai!

01. What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?

So her full name in game is Nyokkai, which was entirely me mashing syllables together that I felt sounded immensely nice to say in order~ While I wasn’t thinking of it at the time, I can guarantee yokai influenced the name, as a word I know of. And as her personality came together, Nyokkai ended up shortening to Kai!

I still use her full name for her character tag since it keeps things cleaner in my barely there tagging system, so if you see Nyokkai ever mentioned it’s the same person as Kai. It’s always a toss-up on my characters whether their name is immensely thought out or just a mashup from the depths of empty head moments. Kai is definitely the latter lol
