Ah yes, part 20056 of Smoothie picking up a new weapon. Anyways I've been playing Splat Dualies lately. Big Swig is mad fun but since I'm starting to play in competitive more I wanted a flex weapon that people would actually want for their team. It's been a bit hard since compared to Dynamo Dualies has way less range but still, it 100% fits my playstyle. I even managed to learn the crab tech where you turn instantly and fire the AOE shot! A lot easier than I had first thought.
Here's a cool clutch moment I had when first picking the weapon up! Was playing with the team I coach. Managed to stall long enough for them all to jump in and score for the win!
Yesterday I had made a post about how I've shifted towards being a midline support player since Bow doesn't feel the best into the current meta. As a competitive Splatoon player it's important to play weapons that are of the same role or class, shifting from Dynamo to backline is a big demand in mechanics and consistency. What weapons would fit my playstyle as a Dynamo player who is good at switching from aggression and passive play? Might be a shock to some but it's actually Big Swig Roller! Swig paints just as well as Dynamo but with WAY less downtime. I feel like this weapon is super underrated by the scene right now, especially with the fact it has 2 amazing kits with broken specials. Splashdown is super good for holding space and being defensive, and Ink Vac is THE support special right now. Big Swig fits well into what my team Brittle Stars runs. When our backline is on Snipwriter and not E-liter I can swap to Swig and still enable our 2 frontlines easily! (Splat Roller and Carbon appreciate the paint heavily.) It's been super fun learning this weapon and it's exactly what want too. Something that is harder to play but once mastered can be really scary to go up against!
Hi, haven't talked about comp for this game in a while. Been super focused on practicing mechanics and I'm even a coach for a team named Tuna mayo! The team has been nothing but positive towards the advice I give so it super boosts my mental. Been mainly playing Dynamo and other support options for my main team Brittle Stars. As much as I love Tri-Stringer and Wellstring they just do not work with E-liter. Bow in general is in a weird spot right now. In solo you end up getting double backline 9 times out of 10. And the general consensus on the weapon is to paint bot with it despite how good the chip damage is. Loads of players are not using it to the fullest potential and it's disappointing. With those reasonings I'm just gonna focus on the midline support stuff more. On a more positive note, I can say Dynamo is single handedly my best weapon mechanics wise! I even updated my build to now have 6 flicks instead of 5, Nintendo won't be nerfing me down again that's for sure.
Time to talk about this! My team started playing more and we talked about what felt missing in our weapon comp. As a Tri-Stringer/Wellstring player its a little harder to fit into comps that run E-Liter and Snipwriter. Wellstring can play more aggressively but at the cost of being a slower weapon meaning we'd need to run things that combo well into my shots. Messing around with ideas I had remembered Moonlight had ran a similar Carbon + Tenta Brella team for the longest time. Today we tested that and it felt amazing! Our Carbon roller player is picking up Mint Decavitator as well so they will have even more options to play alongside Tent. I'm using the Super Chumps Tent specifically because it gives the Carbon more than enough paint and multiple ways to get in. Tent might be a not great weapon by itself but when it's paired with weapons that can abuse the shield and also combo it becomes a whole lot deadlier.
Here's the weapons we will be using most of the time. Don't worry I've talked with my team and they will let me use at the very least Wellstring if our Carbon user either uses Mint Decav or we are on Tower Control as Tent isn't the best in that mode. We think our comp suits us very well because our backline can flex to literally whatever and if needed they can swop to Snipwriter for cooler. Same goes for our Splash player who usually plays Inkbrush/Octobrush. With Tenta Brella CRE-M them swopping to any brush won't lead into a paint problem. It's nice to be on a team where everyone can play a wide range of weapons!
As proof of me doing well here's me casually getting a quad with Tent! I'm liking this thing more than I did Decavitator as it can be more aggressive without being punished as hard. I'll pass the toothbrush to our Carbon player as I'm better with backline/midline supports anyways. I can't wait to get better as a team, I'm very excited!
