If you have any kind of sensory issue or medical condition that makes the Splattercolor Screen unbearable to use, would you mind leaving a comment on how it effects you personally?
I've been seeing a lot of discussion about the accessibility of this special on Twitter and would love to hear some of y'alls experiences and thoughts.
The Special with no accessibility problems, none at all.
The launch version of this special was awful, it was so bad it was almost banned from competitive tournaments. Even with the current state of it, it still has a large variety of issues. Screen is a good concept fundamentally, the idea of a smokescreen in Splatoon is a fun one. If I had full control over this special, this is how I would change it.
The current sound distortion is an issue. Instead of the fizzy popping sounds, it would be changed to make all sounds muffed. Like how the music gets quieter when under ink, it would be like that but more. The idea of the grayscale effect is a good one, it was poorly executed it game, this would be changed to have a slightly longer transitionary period between full color and being desaturated.
Screen takes up a large space on the stage for not a way to destroy it. The four corners of the screen will now have destroyable objects. If all corners are destroyed the screen will pop.
For teammates the screen will be translucent instead of opaque, allowing long ranged teammates to take advantage of the screen better than they can currently (as pictured above.)
To give screen a bit of whimsy, when coming in contact with stage geometry or an opponent, it pokes a hole into the screen and paints the surfaces it touched. This would force opponents to either, back up away from the screen, destroy it, funnel into the holes in the screen, or face tank the screen.
I believe these changes would make Screen a fun special. This is one of the returning specials in Project Painterly.
I will be using them again. Leave name suggestions.
A bit late, but version 6.0.2 dropped an hour or so ago, and they finally, actually, for real this time, fixed the Big Run reward bug! After downloading the update, head to the lobby (the Multiplayer lobby!) and you should receive your actual reward. From the looks of it, you get to keep your old one, too, because I have both a bronze and a gold egg now.
Additionally, Nintendo made some changes to Splattercolor Screen to make it less visually straining. Here is a video showing the changes!
(credit to GlitchedCactus and ashik_spl on twitter for the video!)
They did not change the sound, which is another aspect a lot of people dislike, but this is still an improvement in my book.
Ok this isn't something I've seen discussed on tumbler so I will say it here.
Do not use the Splatter color screen special in splatoon 3
It can hurt and cause significant pain to people with sensory or other issues. I think I speak for all of us when I say It would be better if we kept splatoon as friendly and open as possible. People with these kind of issues shouldn't have to be afraid to play the game out of fear of the pain it could cause.
I personally do not suffer from these issues but know people who do and they nor anyone else don't deserve to be hurt like that. so please just use another special.
And please try to spread the word both so people will stop using it and so Nintendo will catch wind of this.
