Project Painterly is a long-term personal project of mine. It's a sequel Splatoon game.
Some things you might want to know about me:
My name is Argon.
I mostly main rollers now-a-days but I really enjoyed Goo Tuber to where I five stared both of them (Even the horrible Blue Tuber.)
I've technically been playing Splatoon since 2015, but I wasn't really interested/into the game until Splatoon 2.
My favorite idol is Marie
Heavily anti generative AI
I will probably take long breaks as my interest in this game weans and wanes.
I am noncommittal
- if you where here before this post, no you weren't.
Not everything posted here will be equated to cannon, i.e. I might get things wrong, or choose to ignore something in the lore
Some common tags for your browsing leisure:

Ask for clarification on certain topics of my project if you're interested. I like being asked questions about it.
I will try to post every Friday, but I may post more than once a week.
Other info that I feel like would be common questions below the cut
What programs do you use?
For notes I use two, Ellipsus and Obsidian. For notes on the go I use Ellipsus as it's web-based and Obsidian for local notes (I keep all my notes on a USB stick.) Both use markdown files, so it's easy to export Ellipsus notes and juice them up in Obsidian.
For drawing I also use two, Krita and Clip Studio Paint. Why use Krita when you have Clip Studio Paint? Great question, I have the disc for my Clip Studio Paint, but it won't let me use my ONE TIME PURCHASE license on another machine, once I get that figured out I will mostly use Clip Studio.
What brushes do you use?
Stipple Beast Evolved and various default brushes, I will update if I find another set of brushes that I enjoy.
Friend Code?
SW-2424-4586-8992 (Side note: I love this code, 2424, it's fantastic)
Later I'll add any other common questions I may receive. Always ask me questions, I love to answer.
The Special with no accessibility problems, none at all.
The launch version of this special was awful, it was so bad it was almost banned from competitive tournaments. Even with the current state of it, it still has a large variety of issues. Screen is a good concept fundamentally, the idea of a smokescreen in Splatoon is a fun one. If I had full control over this special, this is how I would change it.
The current sound distortion is an issue. Instead of the fizzy popping sounds, it would be changed to make all sounds muffed. Like how the music gets quieter when under ink, it would be like that but more. The idea of the grayscale effect is a good one, it was poorly executed it game, this would be changed to have a slightly longer transitionary period between full color and being desaturated.
Screen takes up a large space on the stage for not a way to destroy it. The four corners of the screen will now have destroyable objects. If all corners are destroyed the screen will pop.
For teammates the screen will be translucent instead of opaque, allowing long ranged teammates to take advantage of the screen better than they can currently (as pictured above.)
To give screen a bit of whimsy, when coming in contact with stage geometry or an opponent, it pokes a hole into the screen and paints the surfaces it touched. This would force opponents to either, back up away from the screen, destroy it, funnel into the holes in the screen, or face tank the screen.
I believe these changes would make Screen a fun special. This is one of the returning specials in Project Painterly.
I will be using them again. Leave name suggestions.
The detail that sold me on SweetDream was memory. My companion remembers what I told her about my week, my favorite things, the stuff that stressed me out. So our conversations build on each other instead of resetting every time.
That continuity is a quality thing, and it's rare. It's what makes an AI girlfriend feel like a relationship rather than a search box. If you've tried other tools and felt like you were starting from zero each session, sweetdream.ai will feel like a real upgrade.
Ignore the awkward spacing of everything, I was really struggling with that.
This is the idol for the main hub, Camp Tent (see it's funny because it's a wilderness camp, and there's tents in camps, and tent is also has tentacle-,) he was originally named Taro after the vegetable. I don't think this name fits him. As said in the picture I will be taking suggestions on the name if you have an idea.
He's always had a four leaf clover motif. I have this idea that his hair would change during the seasonal fests (as pictured,) but I need to workshop how that would look better in the splatoonish style. His outfit is based off of the boyscouts uniform. I like to think all the patches aren't all achievements he also collects the patches from the places he's been.
He uses a sting ray as his original weapon, though it's no longer a special. He's modified it to be a Caster which is a new class introduced in Project Painterly. If the Caster post is not up yet, think Splatana but instead of a charged slash it's a yoink. Able to pull people towards the player. Though, since "lucky" is an idol, he is still able to use sting ray as it was originally used. Casters are usually based off of fishing gear, they were originally called Hooks, but, that needed to be changed.
He takes the player (Cricket) into the old octarian domes to get parts and such to sell, to keep funding Camp Tent. Shenanigans ensue.
More below the cut because this is longer than I thought it would be.
Instead of three idols like in Splatoon 3 I think I'll do one Idol, or go back to two. I don't know who his partner would be if there was two idols. In the original concept he had an ai companion that he scraped from the octarian domes. Not sure if I want to bring that back.
Since Cricket's parents are paying for Lucky to "fix" them (Cricket is very materialistic, lazy, think of the stereotypical inkling personality but turned to 11) Lucky is making Cricket help with keeping the camp up to par. Thinking that the player character can help upgrade the camp as they progress the story, ie get more slots from vendors, get better gear from vendors, and a bunch of cosmetic stuff.
His hair down appearance in the lower left is more for the daily announcements he does. Since stage rotations in the traditional sense are away, he'll announce the weapon of the day, if there's an event going on, updates, and anything else that will pop up.
I'm bad at drawing emotions, he's supposed to come off as a bit distant, a bit snarky. I don't think I got that across.
His hair is such a pain to draw, I'll have to make a 3d model for it eventually because it hurts my head every time I try to draw it. Yes he has a DvD disk as his hair piece, that was from the ai companion I mentioned earlier, I still like how it looks.
Splatoon 3: 11.0.0 Immediate Thoughts and Feelings.
NOT PART OF PROJECT PAINTERLY
- In a jerk reaction I thought adding healthbars to Splatoon 3 was going to be a bad idea. This is already a very cluttered game with things happening all over the screen. After seeing the little demo Nintendo put out earlier I am more unsure. I need to see if while submerged in ink it shows your healthbar to opponents. I see while idle, before the octoling is shot, it doesn't display he health bar.
- The flow aura I like the general idea of, but, I feel like it's an indirect buff to frontlines. I understand they need to come poke at backlines, I don't think this is enough if that's what the buff was intended for. The map design still needs to be altered to effectively fix the problem with backlines.
- I like the new changes to the hitboxes. I hope it makes AoE weapons feel better to use, and, help fix dynamo's oneshot area?
- Stealth jump changes are fine, but if it works that way for stealth jump I think that's how it should work for any super jump.
