Notes/Warnings; Gender Neutral Reader, mentions of weapons, brief mentions of violence
Requested by @blossomgutz
I may do a small fic based on this, since my first draft was more like a fic than headcanons and I really enjoyed it
I am working on my other requests, I just have quite a few and this is the only one that is finished right now.
You had a safe zone, but you needed to leave it occasionally to get food, luxuries, or check for nearby survivors
With Splicers around it was tricky, especially with no weapons, no allies, and only two Plasmids, so sneaking around was pretty much your only option
You spent most of your time hiding. That left you with a lot of time to observe the Splicers and listen to them. It broke your heart.
That's when you came up with an idea so ridiculous that, since it was Rapture, just might work; Befriend a Splicer
The one you chose always suck close by, you knew him by his orange pinstriped pants and the ear of his mask with the tip missing.
He tended to talk to himself about being cold and would occasionally call out for somebody, an incoherent name that he probably didn't fully remember
It was easy to make friends with him. You fed him, subtly.
You threw food his way and then hid.
He approached you. You didn't hide quickly enough but he was more open to talking than tearing you open
And just like that, you have a friend 🥰
You called him Pip. He didn't remember his name, he carried a pipe, lose the 'e', he didn't mind. He liked it. He called you Little Friend, regardless of how big or small compared to him you were.
Pip was usually there when you left your safe zone, armed with his pipe and his gun
He'd tried to give you his gun once ("You need to protect yourself, little friend, it's dangerous") before you reminded him that you didn't know how to use it, and anyway he was there to keep you safe, which he was very flattered by.
He at least convinced you to carry a crowbar
He'd trail after you and talk about anything that came to mind, only to straighten up at any slight noise or go into a room first to make sure it was safe before you'd go inside.
He'd never go into your safe zone but he'd sit on the floor with you outside and spend time with you that way.
One day, to your surprise, he brought another Splicer to your door, promising that Diane was more than safe. She reached out and shook your hand with a crooked, scarred smile, and then handed you an unopened Pep Bar.
