Constant Crashing + Sims with No Character Data = Potential Disaster?
Guys, I'm kinda at my wit's end and could really use some help with my game. My beloved custom hood, Wyvern's Bay, is beginning to show some concerning signs of instability...
ISSUE NO.1: The hood has been crashing incessantly as of late. The problem is most prominent with my bigger castle lots, but I'm also getting near-constant crashes on apartment lots.
The crashing was so bad that I had to skip the Moonfeather rotation altogether. I would get extreme pink soup the moment I loaded their lot (to the point where the lot's terrain even appeared pink in hood view!), and then it would crash mere seconds after.
It was pissing me off so much that I moved the family out, placed a clean version of the lot, and moved them back in. I also got Spockthewok's Memory Address Cap Remover (a.k.a Pink Soup Fix). While that did stop the pink soup, the freshly inhabited lot still crashed seconds upon initiation. I haven't been able to enter it AT ALL for months now. I'm also getting similar issues with the Gladwyn lot. Basically, any bigger lot in the hood has become completely unplayable.
The error log files always show one of these two codes:
0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION (when the castle lot crashes)
0xE06D7363 (-529697949) (when the apartment lot crashes)
ISSUE NO.2: Two sims in the hood appear to have no character data? This was a really unpleasant surprise as Hood Checker has never turned up anything problematic while scanning Wyvern's Bay. One of the "unlinked" sims is the reporter NPC and the other is… baby Godric. Who is an in-game born sim that I've been able to play just fine!? I'm really at a loss how this could happen. The only reason I found out at all was because I tried to extract toddler Godric into Bodyshop, only to learn that SimPE reads him as having no character data.
Additional info that may be relevant: I'm running TS2 on a Win10 desktop with extended warranty. I have the Ultimate Collection and Lazyduchess' RPC launcher, the 4GB patch, the Empty Standby list, all the good stuff.
On a less positive note, the disk space on my Local Disk (C:) has been running low lately (between 6-10GB), and my GPU is an old NVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti. I was able to clean Local Disk (C:) and get it to 11GB of free disk space, and the game recognises my graphics card just fine from what I can tell.
I haven't gotten any new mods recently aside from the aforementioned Pink Soup Fix and Spockthewok's Reflective Water Plugin, but my issues have been present long before those two were introduced.
What should I do?
Should I try the 50-50 method? Restore the hood to an earlier version? Just bite the bullet and update my OS to Win11? Invest in a new GPU? I never had any serious issues with my game before and I feel kinda paralysed as to which approach to take to fix these problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
