I can't stop thinking about how connie's party outfit reminded me of pearl's outfit a lot! they both have that turtle neck looking shirt, and the blue coloration, and now she has short hair like her too! You think thats all on purpose or just a really close coincident
oh, could be! I definitely feel like there are loads of very intentional connections the show makes between Rose & Pearl and Steven & Connie, in terms of their relationship (in some aspects), personalities, and possibly plot points (honestly I expect there to be some parallels between how Rose and Pearl met to how Steven and Connie met)
Obviously it’s not one-to-one (among other things, Pearl never quite got the hang of “you’re not expendable so please don’t die for me” thing while Connie did) but there are connections that definitely seem intentional. Pearl and Connie in general have a lot in common - swordfighters (who were not meant to be fighters at all), rebellious (even as early as “Lion 2: the Movie” Connie was sneaking around her parents’ rules), planners/strategists and logic-minded, devoted, very readily believed they’re unimportant, etc. Like obviously given the events of “Sworn to the Sword” Pearl saw herself in Connie so much that she hardcore projected onto her and I doubt that was just a one-off thing
Interestingly, in this arc the roles kinda got flipped. While Pearl was the one sacrificing herself to protect Rose (by all accounts against her wishes), Steven was the one that sacrificed himself to protect Connie (this isn’t totally relevant right now but it just occurred to me so I thought I’d share)
I have some posts lost within the depths of my blog where I’ve talked about this but I can’t for the life of me find them atm. Basically just the show seems to make the connection enough that it feels very intentional, not to say they’re identical, but as a compare and contrast sort of thing. So a sort of visual similarity would definitely play into that!
