LATTER DAY SAINTS DENOUNCE POLYGAMY
"We Are Opposed to Any Lawmaker Sitting in the Halls and Courts of Justice"
"No polygamist should make laws for the Uniited States."
That's the meat of resolutions passed by the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, at a conference just closed in this city.
The conference opened Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was called to order by T. W. Chatburn, missionary in charge of the Spokane district, which comprises eastern Washington and northern Idaho. Mr. Chatburn was elected chairman of the conference and O. L. Ferguson secretary.
Men From Two States.
The conference was well attended by delegates from Washington and Idaho, and visitors were present from Lewiston, Rathdrum and Sagle in Idaho and Rosetta, Wash.
It is stated the conference was harmonious and much business was done for the furtherance of their work in the district. There were four ordained to the ministry during the conference.
Delegates Chosen
The following delegates were elected to attend the annual conference of the church and the national Sunday school convention, to be held at Lamoni, Iowa, April 6, 1905: T. W. Chatburn (chairman), G. W. Winniger, F. J. Chatburn, M. Fordham and Fred Turnbull, with Andy Turnbull as alternate.
Rev. J. M. Puckett of Deep Creek, Wash., bishop of the Spokane district, addressed the meeting Saturday afternoon, his theme being "The Tithing of My People." Sunday morning Elder T. W. Chatburn addressed the meeting on the subject, "The Government of God".
The evening meeting was addressed by Rev. J. W. Chatburn, theme, "Examine Yourselves, Whether You Be in the Faith or Not."
As to Reed Smoot.
At the close of the convention the following resolutions were unanimously adopted. "Whereas, The reorganized church has been charged by its enemies to be in harmony with the Mormons of Utah; therefore, be it :Resolved, That we approve of the Reed Smoot investigations, and should it be proven that he is a polygamist, or living in illegal cohabitation, as defined by the law, we protest against his acting as a lawmaker in the congress of these United States of America.
Virtue and obedience to the law being basic stones of good government, we are opposed to any lawbreaker, whomsoever he may be, sitting in the halls and courts of justice."
The convention then adjourned, to meet again on the last Saturday and Sunday in June, at their new church, on the corner of Third avenue and Smith street, Union Park."

"MUCH INTEREST IN BIG CAMPMEETING
The campmeeting in progress in the Choat grove, three miles northwest of town, by the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, is drawing a large attendance and much interest is evidenced. Each afternoon a number of the workers come into town and hold short gospel meetings on the street, which are listened to by a considerable number of people. There are a number of camps on the grounds, and each service draws people from the surrounding country, who come in by automobile. The principal speaker at the meetings is the Rev. S. S. [Samuel Stephen] Smith, a prominent missionary worker in the organization. Other speakers are the Rev. Daniel McGregor, W. [Wilbur] F. Yates, Robert Newby and Oliver Shirk. The meetings will probably come to a close Sunday.
Two weddings have taken place at the camp grounds since the meetings started. On Sunday Miss Laura Taylor and Mr. Vernon Gunter, both of the Turnbow flat neighborhood, were married. Thursday, Miss Maud Olney and William Taylor were united in marriage. Both ceremonies were performed in public."
