That's really awful. Like, yeah she birthed you, but that doesn't make you a trophy, you're still a person. She doesn't get any brownie points for raising a child that's different than what you normally see on tv.

I'm pretty sure my mom could get her own hate-fandom at this point.

yeah, she sorta just does that about everything. a couple of years back when she started catching on that i was really passionate about hispanic/"brown people" issues i was like, "you know portuguese IS hispanic, right? and that people have made it really clear that they don't perceive me as white?"

she never really considered my dad hispanic because his genes reflected his german mother's side, but my genes have always strongly favored portugese. i'm as tan as my grandfather and have hispanic body hair and some people just automatically assume i'm mexican-- but because i was my white mother's daughter, she always perceived me as just tan, but white. technically portuguese IS white hispanic, but it's hard to have a strong identity with white people when you've got strangers trying to speak spanish to you, get confused for a worker if you happen to dress nice and be out in a public store (cause hispanic people only shop at the local mexican stores, right???), and people assume you can't speak english just because you ask someone to repeat themselves

but the moment she found out that i'm hispanic she was all "MY CHILD IS BIRACIAL" and i kinda just stood their like 'okay yeah that as more of a factoid not something to congratulate yourself over'

pretty much my entire life has been an attempt to garner attention for herself, either from her family or from the people around her. like she'll go around saying stuff about me being autistic/having aspergers if it suits her needs but i was discouraged to tell my family about it.
