“It was your idea to come to this place in the first placeGavin.” Michael said with a small scowl as he looked at the shaking patchworkBrit.
They were standing in front of an old farm house that hadseen better days. Michael was standing next to Gavin with his arms crossed. Alittle ways behind them was Jeremy. The recently red haired man had his handsin his pockets.
“Dude, we haven’t even gone in yet and you look like you’veseen a ghost.” Jeremy chuckled.
“I didn’t expect it to bloody look like that! It looks likeit’s infested with…” Michael and Jeremy looked at him as he finished, “Monsters…oh bloody hell.”
“So wouldn’t that mean that I am the only one with the rightto be scared out of my mind?” Jeremy asked as the only human in the group.
Gavin pouted and Michael sighed before pushing up hissleeves and walking forward. Gavin squawked, “Michael! What are you doing?”
“I’m going inside before you decide to completely chickenout. We’re the scariest things here and we work with a demon, what’s going toscare us?” He asked with a blank look.
Gavin opened his mouth to say something but Jeremy walkedpast him before he could speak. He whimpered but followed after.
The boards of the porch creaked as they walked up to the door.Michael tried the knob and scowled before kicking the door open. The otherslooked at him.
“What? It was locked.” Was his only reply as he smirked.
The inside was a bit of a letdown. It was neat and tidy withwhite blankets on the furniture. Jeremy frowned and bent down to look atsomething on the floor.
“What is it Lil’ J?” Gavin asked in a quiet voice.
“Absolutely nothing.” The short man answered, “No dust ortime wear. Didn’t you say this house had been abandoned for thirteen years?” Helooked at the Brit. Gavin nodded and Jeremy’s frown deepened, “Then why is thefloor swept?” He asked.
The others shared at look as Jeremy stood up. They lookedaround and the walls seemed closer than before. There was a bang from a backroom and Gavin jumped and hid his face.
“What was that?!” He squeaked.
“I don’t know.” Michael said with narrowed eyes. There was ashuffling noise and the others backed towards the door.
A raccoon shuffled into view and the tension in the airvanished. It looked up and spotted them before bolting away.
“A fucking raccoon?” Michael exclaimed, “We were spooked bya fucking raccoon!?” He punched a wall in anger. The wall gave in under hisfist and collapsed with a wheezing sound.
“Holy shit.” Jeremy said, “Did you seriously knock a walldown with your fist?” He asked as they peered inside the darkness behind thewall.
Michael looked at his hand, “I guess I don’t know my ownstrength.” He muttered. Jeremy shook his head before stepping through the walland into a seal off room.
“Hey, there’s a safe in here.” He called as he dusted itoff. The others came in and looked around. The room was filled with papers ofequations and algorithms. There was a cage with what looked like the remains ofa dead animal in the corner and a projector.
“Well this is a Grade A Creepfest.” Michael said as he heldone of the papers.
“Not as creepy as this.” Jeremy said as he held up a bloody notebook.Only one page was filled out. “Anyone fancy a treasure hunt? There’s fourriddles written here with the code for the safe. How about we find them andsolve ourselves a little mystery?” Jeremy suggested.
Gavin was shaking his head while Michael shrugged. Gavinlooked at the older man in betrayal. Jeremy grinned and they read over theclues.
“Well then… Let’s-“ Jeremy started before Michael cut himoff.
“’Let’s split up’, better not be what you were going to say.”He said lowly.
“What? It’ll make this easier.” The short man said indefense.
“Or get us all killed.” Michael shot back.
Jeremy pouted, “This isn’t a horror movie Michael.” Hepointed out.
“And we’re not in a secret room with crazed writing and adead animal in the corner.” Michael deadpanned.
Gavin was watching the two like a tennis match. Jeremysighed and conceded defeat.
“Let’s just finish this so we can all go home.” Gavin saidafter the two stopped. The others nodded in agreement.
