So, I took part in SP's Open House once again! *throws confetti* 

Confession: I have been attending SP's Open House ever since 2011, before I even took my O' levels. One thing that fazes me is how vibrant it's always been ever since 2011. On my very first trip here, I specifically looked for SP's DMC to which I stumbled upon a few kind seniors and also an extremely cool TV studio that now The Agency resides at.

It was a bummer of course, but I do like The Agency as well. 

Anyway, moving on! Last year I took on the role of a tour guide, taking visitors around CASS and introducing them to our school and the courses. It was a great experience for me, and it also contributed quite a fair bit to my CCA points ;)

This year, however, I got to do more fun stuff! I had an Open House shift in the TV studio with my four princesses, as well as Shawn from 01 who kindly helped us as a co-host. I did camera work mostly, and I definitely had fun watching the short impromptu live shows happening in the studio. 

The students that came this year were a nice bunch as well, so it was really fun when they guested. I thought it was a really great experience and exposure for people who were interested in Mass Communication, as they got to see and feel how it's like being in a TV studio.

Apart from being in the TV studio, I also got to co-host the live show that was happening right outside The Agency with Sarah, I must say it was an unforgettable experience! I also got to go on air on Space Radio with her for a short while.

Was exhausted by the end of it, but then again I'm reminded of the fact that this year's Open House is the second and last year that I'm able to actively participate in. How time flies!

SP Open House

I have been to Sp's Open house twice, both in year one and year two. I took that tally to three when I visited this year's open house and I must say I was surprised by a few things. One was the giving out of free Red bull! I was surprised to see that drink being given out. I was expecting something like milo or 100 Plus so I must say that SP is indeed trying their best to provide new things for each open house.

However, this year I did not really explore the open house much but I did take note that DMC is conducting agency tours as with the previous year when I volunteered to help out. This also had a photo booth set up for the people having fun to capture the moment!

Openhouse was this week and it was so so crowded!! Walked around the booths with Shawn and Amos and we saw this booth and it seemed quite fun so the guys went ahead to try it. It was pretty hilarious as their attempts sort of failed but still its the efforts that count, good job guys!

I wanted candy floss, I love love candyfloss but yeah, the queue was way too long for me to handle so I gave it a miss. :(

Bumped into Benn and decided to take a photo with him :) 

Can't wait to see the new juniors that would be joining DMC in April! :)

Let’s take a little break from the music. Here’s a little post about Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and my course, the Diploma in Media and Communication (DMC).

This is a photo featuring one of the famous spots in SP, the Red Bridge. It links the T20 and T21 buildings.

I spent a lot of time here. On most days, I would come here in the evening and just sit down. I would sit on the ground - legs through the railings - and just think.

What I thought most about was about my poly life. As a Year One student, I was skeptical and unsure of what I wanted. I always thought to myself, “Is this the right course for me? What do i wanna do in the future?”.

Now looking back, as a Year Two student, I realised that there was no need for that. Why? That’s because I realised that this was actually a great place to be at. The environment is nice, the school is convenient to get to, the teachers are great, and I have made many new friends.

Not only that, I realised that the course itself taught me about the many aspects of media and communications. It teaches us a variety of different skills that are relevant in our working lives in the future. It gives us a good base or platform to start from, in the future. It just depends on which path we wanna take in the future (journalist, PR, advertising etc.) The course puts us in good stead.

I am enjoying my time here, and I treasure the memories and friendships that I have made. Wouldn’t change a thing.

I am glad that I attended the SP Open House back when I was a fresh secondary school graduate. You should too. We all need a little guidance sometimes.

DMC

Before I blather on about how much I love my class (because I do, a lot) maybe I should start off with how I ended up here.

Basically, for me I only ever wanted to go to either SAJC or a Mass Communication course. I got 13 for my L1R4, so my decision was kind of made for me, but that's okay. Was a bit sad at first that I didn't have an option, but after I thought things through, I realised it probably was for the best. I can't really see myself going through a harder version of secondary school when I could just go to a polytechnic and do something that I actually had an interest in. 

This may sound cheesy, but I got everything I wished for. Sure, it's not like I loved all the modules we took, but I have to admit they were useful and practical. We learnt how to use photoshop, how to film, edit videos, conduct ourselves properly, learn about business, marketing, psychology and more. Best of all, my classmates. This is my class, DMC02 \o/ I was quite worried at first, because I didn't go for the CASS Camp, so I was anxious that everyone would already have made friends but yay that wasn't the case. We especially bonded during the trip to the Titanic exhibit, and the trip to the SAF exhibition.

I think the group work also helped bond us a lot, it's not like you can be cold to someone you have to work with and see for so many weeks anyway. Staying up late to meet deadlines and finish all our work only made us closer, due to a common enemy - time. 

Never thought I'd have so much fun in this course, and this class is a major reason why <3 As the years have passed we've only gotten closer (thank goodness:D) from filming together, to shopping for books, to watching movies, to going out to eat and shop, to cutting our hair and threading our brows, to celebrating Hari Raya and Deepavali and birthdays together, we have so many good memories together. Although we always make fun of and tease each other, I know that they'll definitely be there if I ever need them.
