“I can’t believe you made me late!” Una yelled, getting out of the car once Matt parked it right at the entrance of the nightclub and slamming the door right behind her. She nearly walked out into incoming traffic, some truck honking violently at her as it swerved to get around her, and yet she wasn’t fazed, stomping to get around the car and head inside. “Pick me up at 4 a.m.,” she mumbled bitterly, tossing the strap of her mini backpack over her shoulder, pure ice toward her inconsiderate boyfriend and not even bothering to look at him before she began to walk away.
Matt grabbed her by the arm and she yelped, stopping right in her tracks. “Ow, jeez! What’s your problem?” she asked, eyes shifting around her to make sure none of her coworkers were around. The bouncers were there, but they weren’t paying attention. Una shrunk, looking up at her boyfriend, who suddenly towered over her.
“Apologize, brat,” he spat, growling at her. Una scoffed in return; why the hell would she need to apologize? Her routine started in less than five minutes and she wasn’t even in her outfit yet. But Matt’s grip on her arm tightened and she sighed, yanking her arm back.
“Fine. I’m sorry,” she said, looking down. “Thanks for the ride.”
Matt gave her a kiss and she begrudgingly returned it, pulling away as early as she could only to meet the gaze of someone who’d been walking past her towards the entrance of the club. Shame was splayed all over her features, lips pressing together in some pout. Wordlessly, she head into the club right behind him and his group of friends, grip tight on the strap of her backpack.
She slithered her way over to the dressing room, where she anticipated getting scolded by her boss for arriving late. Thankfully, it was empty. Feeling hollow, she quickly applied her makeup and changed into neon green latex crop top and some black leather hot shorts. Exchanging her beat-up yellow converse for a pair of platform pink heels, she heard the DJ call her name and knew it was time to put on a pretty face.
