Summary: There is a killer hunting frat boys on campus. The Raven Hunter is a terrible name... not that Caroline has a reason to care or anything.
This is one of my favorite one-shots....ever. I LOVE this fic. I love the idea of Caroline’s trauma manifesting in a horrible way. She becomes a serial killer. Typically in fanfic, its Klaus who becomes the serial killer but this time it is Caroline, and it is very refreshing. She takes her butterfly knife and kills frat boys who pray on young college girls.
Then enter Klaus. A thousand year old vampire who just happens to be the soulmate of a serial killer. Yup. Best. Soulmate. Fic. Ever.
My absolute favorite line in the entire story is this right here:
“I’m going to kill the entirety of the frat my friend’s rapist belongs to,” Caroline announced, making sure that Rebekah could clearly hear her. “And then I’m going to kill every other asshole on my list. And I’ll leave their heads piled outside the Dean’s door.”
“Hell,” Caroline heard Rebekah mutter before she stepped into the shower. “Your girlfriend is insane, Nik.”
“Isn’t she magnificent?” was Klaus’ reply, before the water made it so Caroline could hear nothing at all.
This line had me DYING. It just sums up the story perfectly and really gets into the dynamic of their relationship. It is a bit macabre but worth it. Caroline is a killer but still herself.
Why you should read: It will make you laugh because it has light hearted tones sprinkled in with a shit tone of darkness. It has that The Vampire Diaries feel to it that we all know and love but better. It does not shy away from the concept of trauma from suffering abuse. It does so well in that regard but in the direction of what happens when that trauma is manifested in a negative way.
The relationship between Caroline and Klaus is also a delight. Klaus is clearly trash for Caroline while she holds him at arms lengths at first. He delights in the fact that his soulmate is a serial killer and their meeting is just PERFECT.
Seriously, read this fic.
Bonus points: it cracks the mystery of who Jack the Ripper is....this is cannon for me and no one can take that away from me.
